I got exactly what i wanted when i bought this EF Lens. I had read some bad reviews about the lens, but I just think it's just a matter of taste. It's not the best lens in the world, but I like it! It's cheap (for a lens), it's small and it's great in dark conditions.
I wanted a wide angle prime and was caught between the 24mm f2.8 and the 28mm f1.8. I decided to go with aperture over focal length. I think I made a good choice. This is a good lens, fast focus, sharp images. So far I am pleased with my choice. Thanks again to B&H for their help and fast delivery.
my first prime lens for T1i, all around lens that can be uses most of time!
Consistent Output; Durable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction
I never wrote a product review before but this lens causes so much confusion across the internet that I couldn't resist offering my opinion. I only use it as a standard prime on a cropped sensor so I'm not referring to it's use as a wide angle lens on a full-frame sensor.
I went to a Best Buy store to order this lens & first of all service was awesome! I ordered it on a Monday afternoon at 430 & it arrived 2 days later! Great experience all the way around.
It is wide enough for the Grand Canyon, but not too wide (or fish eye). It is quiet, and worked well shooting Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West a week ago.
Their is a little noticeable barreling around the sides, so be careful if straight lines are important. (As with all wide-angle lenses) Good balance, good size.
Purchased this lens for my Rebel XSi; With the XSi all lenses have a 1.6 multiplying factor, so it looks like a 50mm on a film XLR; I wanted something fast for indoor photos without a flash; Focus is critical; Good color and detail when you set up the photo correctly.
You have to force this lens f-stop down to get good depth of field; Some like the 'bokeh', I don't; I go for f10-14 on a tripod and I am happy
This lens is exactly what I hoped it would be: light, light, light. The 1.8 F-stop is simply amazing in low light. I took architectural photos at night; some of the shots were poorly lit by someone else and some were in nothing but half-moonlight. This lens picked up all the details like a champ.
This has been my favorite lens so far. I have another fixed lens of Canon's that I fell in love with & both are great. The images are crisp and clear and they are sturdy/durable.
