It is wide enough for the Grand Canyon, but not too wide (or fish eye). It is quiet, and worked well shooting Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West a week ago.

very light and awesome picture quality, built is OK, didn't expect the wideness even on 1.6 cropped 550D. I would recommend to a friend.
Easy to use; Compact; Build quality; Battery life; Screen size
Solid Construction. Good low light performance on a T6i. Excellent sharpness at f2.8. Still not bad at f1.8. Nice wide angle without fisheye for a crop DSLR.
Their is a little noticeable barreling around the sides, so be careful if straight lines are important. (As with all wide-angle lenses) Good balance, good size.
Purchased this lens for my Rebel XSi; With the XSi all lenses have a 1.6 multiplying factor, so it looks like a 50mm on a film XLR; I wanted something fast for indoor photos without a flash; Focus is critical; Good color and detail when you set up the photo correctly.
You have to force this lens f-stop down to get good depth of field; Some like the 'bokeh', I don't; I go for f10-14 on a tripod and I am happy
This has quickly become my favorite walk around lens. I have 2 crop bodies (T1i and 50D) and this lens is equivalent to a "normal" 50mm lens on a full frame body. I shoot in a photojournalist style and this lens matches my style perfectly. Its fast aperture make it great indoors and out,...
This lens is exactly what I hoped it would be: light, light, light. The 1.8 F-stop is simply amazing in low light. I took architectural photos at night; some of the shots were poorly lit by someone else and some were in nothing but half-moonlight. This lens picked up all the details like a champ.
Love the maximum aperture of 1.8!
This has been my favorite lens so far. I have another fixed lens of Canon's that I fell in love with & both are great. The images are crisp and clear and they are sturdy/durable.
Honestly, I think this lens has an undeservedly bad reputation among "technical" reviewers on the internet. I'm sure it sucks at shooting test charts wide open. I don't shoot test charts - I shoot people indoors (groups, activity-based portraits, etc) with this lens on an original 5D with wide...
Small; great build; very sharp away from extreme corners
slightly soft wide open - clears up by f/2.2; hood not included
I've had the lens for almost a year using it on a crop camera. Sharpness/Softness: For this review soft means you can just start to see lack of sharpness in an A4 print. Center is sharp at all apertures, the borders are a touch soft at f1.8, corners are noticably soft at F1.8.
