Amazing gameplay, massively improves on the first game in every way!
Amazing gameplay, massively improves on the first game in every way!
A simple Switch port of the Wii U version of Super Mario Maker would have been excellent, but this version goes further and offers plenty of room to grow. We'll miss the Amiibo costumes, and it's still disappointing that we can't go very deep into programming enemy behavior, but the game is still a...
Numerous fun tools, skins, and themes for creating Super Mario levels; Expanded online and multiplayer options; New single-player campaign mode
Can't play with friends online yet; No Amiibo costumes for Super Mario Bros; levels; Limited ability to affect enemy and object behaviors
If Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the celebration of all things Nintendo, Super Mario Maker 2 is the ultimate celebration of all things Mario! The original Wii U game expanded on what was possible in a Mario course, but the follow-up elevates the experience with true sequel status.
Super Mario Maker felt perfect for the WiiU. The wonderfully creative side of Nintendo shone through in almost every aspect of the game and it suited the WiiU's set up in every way. Unfortunately, due to the WiiU's dismal sales, not very many people got to play it.
Tons of single-player content (100+ levels; Online multiplayer versus and co-op modes are wonderful; chaotic fun; Filtering online makes avoiding bad levels a little easier; Designing levels is a perfect background activity; Great new music and content (especially for original SMB; Level...
Designing in docked mode is cumbersome; Multiplayer online may be an issue in SA due to internet speeds; WiiU dual-screen interface a better fit
Mick Jagger once crooned the phrase "you can't always get what you want", but in 1969 he didn't even have pong, so frankly I don't think he had any idea what he was talking about. 2019, howe
New course making tools are great; Online additions are a nice touch; It's infinite Mario levels
Multiplayer is a bit underwhelming; Handheld mode requires touch
If you enjoyed the first title you can rest assured there's plenty of new toys to get your hands on so it won't feel like you're retreading old ground Having previously given you the ability to make your very own Mario levels in Super Mario Maker what was Nintendo to do in the sequel
Lots of brand new content; Single player mode is a great addition; Endless possibilities; 3D World exclusives add depth
Some iffy dialogue
Welcome to the latest installment in "Games I Never Played on the Wii U." Today's episode is all about Super Mario Maker 2 , a toybox/platformer so good it's giving me retroactive regrets about my life choices up to this point. All this time, I could have been making weird, dumb Mario levels!
Tons of new mechanics; Touchscreen functionality works great; Story mode is proper robust
Not enough new content for veterans; Still requires a certain headspace; Your mileage may vary
Super Mario Maker 2 is the most accessible game design tool ever created, and that core is just one part of a greater whole. I spent hours building levels, testing them, and starting over again, and I feel like I've only barely scratched the surface of what's possible.
Time will tell if Super Mario Maker 2 becomes the bottomless treasure trove of Mario goodness that it has the potential to be. Nintendo has put the building blocks (and Yoshi Eggs, Propeller Mushrooms, Thwomps, Hammer Bros, Spike Pillars and Seesaws) in place. Now it’s up to the community to get making. And even if, like this writer, you quickly realise you’re not the brilliantly inventive level designer you always hoped you would be, a combination of the plentiful bitesized story levels and pic ‘n’ mix thrills of Course World make this another must-have for your Switch library.
Great UI ; Super Mario 3D World style adds a host of new gameplay options; Decent story mode; Course World could and probably will be brilliant;
