This lens is an absolut must for any Nikon photographer. It's sharp as hell, it's ok cheap and the DOF is really outstanding. This lens purpose best with portraits and food photography. It's also completely ideal for low-light situations. If you can't afford the 85mm 1.8, this is the way to go.
Pros:
- Fast
- Razor sharp (specially at f/4)
- Amazing DOF
- Lightweight and Compact (can be fitted into a pocket)
- Price
- A MUST for any Nikon photographer
Cons:
- Slightly soft contrast at f/1.4 but not really noticeable
- Could be bigger in size, but whatever..

Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G Review
The G-series lens, however, wins hands-down when it comes to AF speed and quietness, but very occasionally it recorded real-world images that were very slightly less sharp than the others on test here. This is not a serious problem but it was detected on isolated occasions.
Pros:
- Quick and quiet AF
Cons:
- Poor retro compatibility

Great lens!
Having used a number of different platforms for my personal photography, I have found that Nikon and Nikkor lenses are my first choice. For 35mm photography and digital photography as well, it is my opinion that these lenses are unsurpassed in quality, performance, and ease of use.

It's what canon's 50mm f/1.4 Should be.
One day, I got fed up with Canon's 50mm f/1.4 lens design. Having had 2 of their lens fail due to issues with autofocus, and the micro usm; I decided to give Nikon a shot. Canon should be ashamed of themselves. This lens is made in china and performs better than theirs which is made in japan.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Lightweight
- Nice Bokeh
Cons:
- Slow Focus

Better than expected
I've had this lense for over 3 weeks and haven't yet taken it off my D7000. This is my first prime lense and I'm finding it to be sharp, fast-focusing and easy to use as I take photos of my granddhildren. I wish I'd purchased it sooner.
Pros:
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Lightweight
- Sharpness
Cons:
- NONE

Pricey but worth it!
The Nikon 50mm 1.4 is a great lens. It's focus accuracy in very low light is unparalleled. It is razor sharp from F2 and up. At 1.4 the image are good but not super sharp like most 50mm prime lenses. There is a slight bit of distortion. The colour and contrast are also very good.

Dream Lens!
"This lens has opened up the door for many opportunities with my photography. This lens was recommended by a henry's employee who inspired me to broaden my horizon with portrait photography. It gives strong depth of field, and simply a unique out-take of the image!"
