The pictures below illustrate the angles of view on FX (35mm full frame) and DX camera bodies:

Extremely even image quality across the frame; even on FX; Improved image quality over 50mm F1.4D at large apertures; Exceptional image quality when stopped down; Essentially no lateral chromatic aberration; Near-silent AF-S focus with full-time manual override

Slightly soft at large apertures; Somewhat susceptible to flare; Longitudinal (bokeh) chromatic aberration; most visible at large apertures; Vignetting at large apertures on full frame (essentially disappears by F2.8; Slower autofocus than the screw-drive AF-Nikkor 50mm F1.4D

Lens Test: Nikon 50mm f/1.4G Nikkor AF-S

The newest version of Nikon's storied 50mm f/1.4 boasts a redesigned optical formula for more effective flare prevention. A 75mm equivalent on Nikon smaller-sensor DX bodies, this $500 (street) full-framer also has a circular-bladed aperture for smoother defocusing. HANDS ON

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens AF-S 50MM F/1.4G review

The Nikon 50mm ƒ/1.4G AF-S tested well in our labs, marred only by soft results with significant corner shading when set to its widest aperture. Set to ƒ/2 it makes a nice portrait lens - sharp center, soft corners - and by ƒ/2.8 it's a decently sharp lens across the image.

AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G Lens

The compact size of this lens and its large maximum aperture make it ideal for travel, event and environmental photography and it also makes a great general-purpose lens when high-quality images are required.

You need a fast, standard prime lens and want excellent image quality plus value for money, You want a small, lightweight, well-built lens for general photography; Don't buy this lens if, You want close-up versatility and performance, You require very high resolution at wide lens apertures

[REVIEW-NIKKOR AF-S 50mm f1.4G lens]

This is a 50mm Nikkor prime lens with a maximum aperture of f1.4. Auto focussing is by Nikon's Silent Wave Motor and it works with the Nikon D40/60 range of cameras that are not fitted with in-body focus drives.

The sharpness, colour fidelity and contrast of this lens, and the complete absence of distortion, make it a perfect optic for portraits; The closest focus distance is 0.45m, so it is not a macro lens, but the brilliance of the images means they can be cropped and enlarged without loss of detail

The auto focus seems, for want of a better word, languid; It is always accurate and the mechanism is indeed silent, but the lens cruises, rather than snaps, into sharp focus

Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4 G - Review / Test Report

The Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4 G is a very good lens that performes on a high level except for slightly soft borders and somewhat busy bokeh at wide open aperture. From f/2 onwards, the lens is able to deliver crisp images that do not leave much to desire.
