[REVIEW-NIKKOR AF-S 50mm f1.4G lens]
This is a 50mm Nikkor prime lens with a maximum aperture of f1.4. Auto focussing is by Nikon's Silent Wave Motor and it works with the Nikon D40/60 range of cameras that are not fitted with in-body focus drives.
Pros:
- The sharpness, colour fidelity and contrast of this lens, and the complete absence of distortion, make it a perfect optic for portraits
- The closest focus distance is 0.45m, so it is not a macro lens, but the brilliance of the images means they can be cropped and enlarged without loss of detail
Cons:
- The auto focus seems, for want of a better word, languid
- It is always accurate and the mechanism is indeed silent, but the lens cruises, rather than snaps, into sharp focus

Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4 G - Review / Test Report
The Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4 G is a very good lens that performes on a high level except for slightly soft borders and somewhat busy bokeh at wide open aperture. From f/2 onwards, the lens is able to deliver crisp images that do not leave much to desire.
