On DX it's my 'bread-and-butter' Queen. And in when flash is not a solution, it just make the difference between a blurred picture and a picture I can sell.
Sharp from f2.0 and it's a perfect allround lens in low-light situations
Ca can be a 'problem' at f1.4 its a litle soft
The Nikon 50mm 1.4 is a great lens. It's focus accuracy in very low light is unparalleled. It is razor sharp from F2 and up. At 1.4 the image are good but not super sharp like most 50mm prime lenses. There is a slight bit of distortion. The colour and contrast are also very good.
Great lens. If your just starting out as a photographer like myself, the bokeh is awesome with this. I used it on a D60, the bokeh was O.K., just turn it to landscape to get the f/1.4 and it was very good then...I put it onto my D3100 & it was the BEST! Right on auto it was f/1.4.
Bokeh; Macro; Portraits
Pricey
Overall, this is a fantastic all-round lens particularly for portraits
Wide Aperture; Cheap (for a lens); Compact; Light
Glow around subject begins to appear around subjects when at a very wide apearture
I recently bought this lens to go on my Nikon D700 the results are brilliant it also works well on my Nikon d300 a great portrait lens and the 1.4 is great in low light if you can afford it get it
Basic tools are a necessity in any field of work. Construction workers have circular saws. Painters have primer coats. Mechanics have socket sets. And good photographers have fast, sharp and ideally inexpensive lenses. These are tools good tradesmen require.
I've had this lense for over 3 weeks and haven't yet taken it off my D7000. This is my first prime lense and I'm finding it to be sharp, fast-focusing and easy to use as I take photos of my granddhildren. I wish I'd purchased it sooner.
Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Sharpness
NONE
One day, I got fed up with Canon's 50mm f/1.4 lens design. Having had 2 of their lens fail due to issues with autofocus, and the micro usm; I decided to give Nikon a shot. Canon should be ashamed of themselves. This lens is made in china and performs better than theirs which is made in japan.
Consistent Output; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh
Slow Focus
Gary Wolstenholme investigates Nikon's latest wide aperture 50mm lens with silent focusing.
Excellent optical quality; Good build quality; Light weight; Good value; Focusing speed lower than previous version; 58mm; size not common for Nikon prime lenses
