When focus is spot on, the photos come out fairly sharp with awsume bokeh. I've tested three copies from my current Nikon dealer and they all had the same problem: Focusing success rate is less than 40%.

I've had this lense for over 3 weeks and haven't yet taken it off my D7000. This is my first prime lense and I'm finding it to be sharp, fast-focusing and easy to use as I take photos of my granddhildren. I wish I'd purchased it sooner.
Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Sharpness

One of the best primes I have, the bokeh is pretty nice at 1.4. Special lens for portrait photography and in FF gets even better. Will be hard to focus with it, but once you get the trick, you will love it. It's expensive regarding 1.8f but worth the difference.
There are plenty of great, maybe better, lenses on the market. I chose the 50mm f/1.4D because for me, it is a versatile lens to an extent. It is a prime lens, therefore one cannot zoom in (for those of you not familiar or new to prime lenses.
I have found this lens to be the perfect companion for nighttime portraits of street people in Las Vegas. I use it with a D7100 and it gives me the perfect reach for finding subjects in the crowds of Fremont Street. This is the perfect FX lens to use on a DX body. It is clean, fast, and sure.
Superb lens, i can't stress enough the importance of having a 50 mm lens and this is perphas the best you can buy in a 50 mm category. However I was not very satisfied with the packaging, the packing looked old, though the lens inside was brand new.
The first thing to note is that the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G must not be confused with the older 50mm f/1.4 'D' lens. The 'D' lens dates back to the days of Nikon film cameras and includes an aperture ring on the lens barrel.
Pros: Drawing Is An Excellent, Light intensity, Af Is Fast, The Focus Is On A Quiet, Excellent Pokeh, Focus Can Very Cons: Is Not A Macro Other thoughts: The lens is optically as good as new even though it is refurbished. The product was involved in UV filter and lens hood.
The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens is a step up from the f/1.8 version offering both a higher aperture and better build quality. This 'G' series lens means that the AF motor is built into the lens itself and is therefore compatible with entry level Nikon DSLRs.
You can't judge a book by its cover, but you can judge a lens system by the quality of its "fast fifty" prime lens. If your system's lens designers can't nail this one? Good luck producing top-notch lenses with more complex designs.
