Great in low light and for portraits

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens is a step up from the f/1.8 version offering both a higher aperture and better build quality. This 'G' series lens means that the AF motor is built into the lens itself and is therefore compatible with entry level Nikon DSLRs.

Nikon 50mm f/1.4G Review

This is an in-depth review of one of my favorite prime lenses – the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G, which was announced back in September of 2008. For many years the focal length of 50mm lenses was considered a "standard" or "normal" focal length, because it closely resembles the perspective of the human eye.

Amazing Lens

Great lens. If your just starting out as a photographer like myself, the bokeh is awesome with this. I used it on a D60, the bokeh was O.K., just turn it to landscape to get the f/1.4 and it was very good then...I put it onto my D3100 & it was the BEST! Right on auto it was f/1.4.
Pros:
  • Bokeh
  • Macro
  • Portraits
Cons:
  • Pricey

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f1.4G

Zoom lenses are all very well, but while they're certainly sharp enough, they lack the distortion and aberration control found in older prime lenses. More than that, though, they have much smaller maximum apertures.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G ($484.95 direct) is the company's most recent standard-angle D-SLR lens. It offers improvements over previous versions, including improved coatings, and an internal focus motor, but it eliminates the aperture ring so you won't be able to use it on older manual focus...

Awesome picture and built quality

Very good built quality and high end glass used. Not as sharp with wide open aperture but overall extremely well performing fast lens. Does not have VR so slow shutter speed may be an issue. Maximum bokeh is only achievable if used of FX camera's. Won't notice much of a difference in the DX range.
