OH MY LANTA! I love this lens! I have been doing photography for 2 years now and have slowly built on my collection of lenses. This lens, aside from the 85mm 1.8f is by far my favorite portrait lens. Really it is the most universal sense and it provides amazing quality pictures!

Affordable compromise
I started with the 35mm 1.8, but kept looking at the 85mm 1.4. During the search I discovered the 50mm 1.4. Since I use a D7200, I decided that saving $1,000 and getting 70mm equivalent was close enough for now. After my first photo shoot I am very pleased with the compromise.

The pictures below illustrate the angles of view on FX (35mm full frame) and DX camera bodies:
Pros:
- Extremely even image quality across the frame
- even on FX
- Improved image quality over 50mm F1.4D at large apertures
- Exceptional image quality when stopped down
- Essentially no lateral chromatic aberration
- Near-silent AF-S focus with full-time manual override
Cons:
- Slightly soft at large apertures
- Somewhat susceptible to flare
- Longitudinal (bokeh) chromatic aberration
- most visible at large apertures
- Vignetting at large apertures on full frame (essentially disappears by F2.8
- Slower autofocus than the screw-drive AF-Nikkor 50mm F1.4D

Great in low light and for portraits
The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens is a step up from the f/1.8 version offering both a higher aperture and better build quality. This 'G' series lens means that the AF motor is built into the lens itself and is therefore compatible with entry level Nikon DSLRs.

Nikon 50mm f/1.4G Review
This is an in-depth review of one of my favorite prime lenses – the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G, which was announced back in September of 2008. For many years the focal length of 50mm lenses was considered a "standard" or "normal" focal length, because it closely resembles the perspective of the human eye.

You can't judge a book by its cover, but you can judge a lens system by the quality of its "fast fifty" prime lens. If your system's lens designers can't nail this one? Good luck producing top-notch lenses with more complex designs.

Good Portrait And Night Photography...
There are plenty of great, maybe better, lenses on the market. I chose the 50mm f/1.4D because for me, it is a versatile lens to an extent. It is a prime lens, therefore one cannot zoom in (for those of you not familiar or new to prime lenses.

AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G Lens
The compact size of this lens and its large maximum aperture make it ideal for travel, event and environmental photography and it also makes a great general-purpose lens when high-quality images are required.
Pros:
- You need a fast, standard prime lens and want excellent image quality plus value for money, You want a small, lightweight, well-built lens for general photography
- Don't buy this lens if, You want close-up versatility and performance, You require very high resolution at wide lens apertures

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G review
The first thing to note is that the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G must not be confused with the older 50mm f/1.4 'D' lens. The 'D' lens dates back to the days of Nikon film cameras and includes an aperture ring on the lens barrel.
