My Nikon D5500 DSLR review shows a camera that fits in the middle of the DSLR camera market. It has a nearly four figure price tag, so it's above the price point of most entry level DSLRs.
It is worth noting, though, that the mobile app is a bit plain and there are myriad buttons (in too many separate places). You need to learn about ISO, shutter speed, aperture, exposure and all the other things that making shooting with a DSLR (or a mirrorless camera) that much more difficult, but...
Have now had this camera for a while and are very satisfied. I have small hands get a good grip on it. Like the rotary touch display. Provides good clear images and are not too difficult to understand. It is not so great either, so it is easy to take along.
