It is worth noting, though, that the mobile app is a bit plain and there are myriad buttons (in too many separate places). You need to learn about ISO, shutter speed, aperture, exposure and all the other things that making shooting with a DSLR (or a mirrorless camera) that much more difficult, but...

Great multi-purpose camera

I work a lot with both photo and video, so this camera is a good fit for me. The image quality is excellent, it is full of useful features, and the compact size makes it easy to carry in a smaller bag.

Simply Brilliant

I'm fortunate to also own a D7200 with a 16-85mm zoom. I bought the D5500 because it would be lighter to carry and I'm not a great lover of compact cameras. To sum this camera with the 18-55 VR II lens up in one word - SUPERB. Don't underestimate the quality of the lens either.

Great camera and very easy to use.

The one thing I wish was available are much clearer instructions, especially or the flash I received with this bundle. I'm lost and there is nothing online that can help me figure this out.

Easy To Use; Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus; Fast Shutter Speed; Good Image Quality; Good Image Stabilization; High ISO Performance; Large Clear LCD

Excellent Camera

One of the best cameras for entry level DSLR. Have used extensively and the results are fantastic. Have combined with Nikon 50mm and 35 mm lenses to get some very good pictures.

Nikon D5500

The Nikon D5500 is an excellent DSLR in the budget segment. While it is an incremental upgrade over the Nikon D5300, there are different customer groups to whom the D5500 will make sense. For entry-level photographers looking for more lenses, the D5300 will make sense.

Light; compact unit; Fast autofocus; Fluid touchscreen interface; Excellent dynamic range; Massive array of compatible lenses; Wireless connectivity

Light body not ideal for heavy lenses; No antialiasing filter; No in-built GPS
