XCOM: Enemy Unknown

In XCOM: Enemy Unknown, victory is sweet--but it's so much sweeter when it arrives after a heart-wrenching standoff. With each turn, the newest entry in this beloved strategy series heightens the sense of tension, and each defeat of a hovering alien craft thus becomes cause for celebration.

Tension-filled turn-based matches Great sense of progression makes you feel increasingly powerful Complex interconnected economy makes each decision important Soldier perma-death gets you invested in the fate of your veterans

Map repetition Camera foibles; frame rate jitters; and other visual glitches

Amazing game

Best strategy game on the PS3, so enjoyable as the original in the 90s. The multiplayer is not so great as the single player but it's nice too.

4 stars due to the minor flaws below.

In the first three months of the game you really are shoehorned into spending any and all available funds into satellites and completing missions for engineer rewards and buying workshops and i don't feel the game emphasizes this enough.

round strategy

XCOM Enemy Unknown is a great title I like this game because it is different than other similar games. I like destroy U.F.O. after you assembly your squad. The missions are always different every game that you start. I recommended this game to all that love strategy games and science fiction.

Amazing! Totally lives up to the original

Great tactical strategy game. A great reboot of the original game. You can still even play at the punishing classic level of difficulty. Turn based combat, RPG elements and long term strategy all mixed in. A definite buy, especially if you were a fan of the original.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Firaxis's XCOM: Enemy Unknown is both ridiculously fun, and unbelievably frustrating. I generally lean more towards the fun end of that equation, but as a successor to the original UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka X-COM: UFO Defense ), which itself was known for its brutal difficulty, things can quickly turn...

The rating on this game is too damn high

Having played this entire game through twice, I find the ratings on this game absurd. This game is a tactical turn-based strategy that pits an alien force against humanity's 'XCOM Project', who defend the Earth from threats by the aliens.

XCOM Enemy Unknown

How do you approach such a well-loved franchise? You have Firaxis kick the tires and light the fires and go for the magic once again. Over my over 30 years of gaming the Original XCOM holds a place in my memories as such a spectacular game for its time.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Review

(continued from previous page) ...style are good and very fitting, but consistent frame-rate drops are a nuisance. The music choice is great and very fitting as well, which correctly emphasize specific moments and achieve the desired emotional response.

Gameplay is fun and satisfying; great replay value; Very challenging and unpredictable; never allowing you to become too comfortable; All decisions made; whether in or out of battle; carry a heavy weight

Consistent frame-rate drops can hurt the experience; Lackluster story

Slingshot adds three good missions to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but too easily blends into the dozens of hours that surround it.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Slingshot asks the question: is more of the same enough to satisfy you? If so, and if you don't mind starting a new game from scratch, then you already know what you need to know about the first major downloadable content for this great turn-based strategy game.

Three new fun; atmospheric missions; Enemy placement and timed objectives lead to tense strategizing

You have to start a new game to see the content; Adds too little; and is too unmemorable; to justify the cost
