XCOM: Enemy Unknown review

X-COM: Enemy Unknown has been around forever, or at least since I played it in 1994. The fresh isometric graphics, great atmosphere and crushing difficulty level made it an instant classic. You could even name your troops after your friends and family!

Good crisp visuals and atmospheric sound; Very addictive gameplay

Camera can be very temperamental in tight multi-level spaces leading to frustration

XCOM Offers Modern, Classic Gameplay

The original X-COM: UFO Defense is one of my favorite games of all time. For a game released back in 1994, it had more depth than any title I experienced before. It had the resource management and productivity of Civilization combined with the turn based tactical combat of Jagged Alliance.

Amazing! Totally lives up to the original

Great tactical strategy game. A great reboot of the original game. You can still even play at the punishing classic level of difficulty. Turn based combat, RPG elements and long term strategy all mixed in. A definite buy, especially if you were a fan of the original.

Awesome graphics combined with super awesome gameplay

My Fav Strategy game on PS3! Awesome graphics combined with super awesome gameplay. The DLC Enemy Within also adds great value to the game. But not for novice player as it is a difficult game. The Hard Modes are almost impossible to defeat. Great Value for money.

Great strategy game.

With the limited amount of strategy games available for the PS3 it was finally nice to have one. A great game slightly different to other strategy games. But if you like games such as civilisation you'll love this. A must buy for any strategy game lovers.

Slingshot adds three good missions to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but too easily blends into the dozens of hours that surround it.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Slingshot asks the question: is more of the same enough to satisfy you? If so, and if you don't mind starting a new game from scratch, then you already know what you need to know about the first major downloadable content for this great turn-based strategy game.

Three new fun; atmospheric missions; Enemy placement and timed objectives lead to tense strategizing

You have to start a new game to see the content; Adds too little; and is too unmemorable; to justify the cost

XCOM: Enemy Unknown review

Firaxis' reboot of XCOM, Enemy Unknown, is one of the most logically sound alien invasion games you'll ever play. It accepts that if extraterrestrials were to invade the earth, it wouldn't be a single soldier in a suit of armor that fights them off by blasting his way through their defenses.

Satisfying; difficult tactical battles; The lengthy campaign and robust multiplayer; Incredibly deep customization

Camera and control problems; Random difficulty spikes; Watching your loved ones die to incredibly bad luck

This is an awesome game! I like games, but I usually have a bad feeling after playing for too long, like I wasted my time. But with this game I don't. I think its because you fight, AND build, design, plan, think about strategics, etc, so you have to think and it makes the experience more rewarding.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Review

Col. Bertrand "Gunner" Dubois Col. Kavita "Hardcore" Das Maj. Carlos "Hazard" Vega These are just a few of the names that grace the memorial wall of my XCOM base. They represent the losses faced during my campaign, and in turn speak to the XCOM: Enemy Unknown experience as a whole.

Tension-filled campaign; Perfect mix of base operations and actual battles; Meaningful player progression

Lack of map variety

Addictive, fun game!

When I was younger I use to watch my mam play X-COM on the first playstation. I always use to moan because I always use to watch her play games, but never really got this one. Or quite simply I got bored of waiting for my turn on the playstation, but then I would moan and get told off.
