We love the colors that WD makes available for the My Passport Essential family, and its included backup solutions. Plus, you get an additional 40GB of storage over the LaCie little disk for $10 less.

Great portable storage. USB power is nice though it needs a powerful USB and sometimes the Y USB cable for dual USB power. I've dropped mine on wood before and hasn't broken. Easy to replace internal drive if it fails.

The product shipped really fast and works really well with no issues. I am happy that it transfers data really fast since I have tons of huge picture files on my pc that I wanted to backup using this. The pink color is a huge bonus for me!

The new smaller USB connector (smaller than the standard mini USB on the 360GB) on the Passport is horrible. A slight touch and it loses connection, causing the dreaded "device removed unexpectedly" warning. This happened 3 times today in my first us...

Passport is the apt name chosen by Western Digital for its range of portable storage devices, not much bigger than the 2.5in notebook drives they contain.

With so many portable hard drives to choose from it's not easy for a new release to stand out from the crowd, but Western Digital's My Passport Studio 640GB succeeds admirably with an interesting feature that's more than just a gimmick.

Transfer rates stayed the same with the installation of the SmartWare software, though the user experience decreased. If you don't install it, every time you connect the drive the software will mount and ask to be installed. This was extremely annoying.

I am A big computer user and I do a lot of downloading of movies and music, my computer hard drive is 300 gb and I only had 20 gb left, it was enough to run my computer and keep it up to peak(ish) performance but that meant that I couldn't download anymore stuff.
