Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Review

This really the Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider, but only because of the graphical overhaul. If you had issues before with the direction in which Crystal Dynamics have taken the character, or with the occasional intrusion of gameplay elements like levelling up and Lara's ability to carry six...

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

One of the best adventure games on console, with a fantastic blend of action and exploration. The Definitive Edition really is definitive, but isn't worth a repeat buy for those who've already experienced Lara's story.

Lara Croft is a believable badass; Wonderful; varied setting; An excellent sense of pacing

Side characters are dull stereotypes; Has a slow start; Definitive Edition offers few upgrades

The new version of Tomb Raider isn't worth a double-dip, but it stands far ahead what has come before. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is a weird beast. It's the kind of game that would normally be cross-generational, with one version on the older console and another on the shiny new black boxes.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Review

With 2013 behind us, next-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles in our homes, and a little bit of extra cash to squeeze out of the latest Tomb Raider game, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have thrown everything they have at Lara Croft and come up with a damn gorgeous game.

Lara Croft; Tomb Raider; Platforming and traversal gameplay; Tight third-person shooting and combat; Hidden Tombs; Stories discovered in collectibles; Pacing and variation in gameplay

Tacked-on; passable multiplayer; KILL ALL THE MEN

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Review: Lara's PS4 debut is a shining triumph

Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider revival last year wasn't just a monumental success in terms of sales and critical reception; it re-established one of gaming's most iconic heroines in Lara Croft, making the dexterous archaeologist relevant once again after a major career lull.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition review

Square Enix is back to take a second bob at the apple with Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. Can this version of the game stand alone, or has last night's casserole been zapped in the microwave? Matt Maguire returns to Yamatai.

Sumptuous visuals; A great soundtrack; Excellent combat and climbing mechanics; Lots to discover

A mostly predictable told in polished but generic fashion; Some poor AI and annoying QTEs; Simply puzzles

Game Review: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

In 2013 the rebooted Tomb Raider was without question one of the games of that year and most certainly the best game from the series in a long time (as much as I loved Tomb Raider : Anniversary & Underworld).

Improved new look for Lara Croft; Noticeable environmental improvements; One of the best action adventures in recent years just got better

Voice commands can have a mind of their own at times

Game of the Year awards are a tricky thing because they happen at the end of the year...

Stunning visuals; Tight pacing and action; Exploration provides depth

Violence starts to grate; Story is lacking; Full price

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Review (PS4)

We definitively define if this version of Tomb Raider is definitive enough.

So pretty; Both Lara and the improved visuals, Game runs more smoothly than PS3 version, Campaign has good variety and balance, DLC is included

Dualshock 4 speaker is jarring on menus; Voice-controls are passable; Full retail price tag on a game that's been out for nearly a year

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

It can all sound like a lot in print, but the parity between being able to explore on your own and always having a clear directive to follow works well throughout. In fact, pretty much everything about Tomb Raider checks out.
