Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

At pretty much no point when I was playing Tomb Raider on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 a year ago did I stop and say to myself, "man, I only wish this looked better." Lara Croft's excellent, cinematic reboot adventure doesn't need extra special effects to make it worth playing.

Even more beautiful; Great combat; Exciting pacing; Relatable Lara

Boring multiplayer

Lara's Never Looked Better

Concept: Bring 2013's excellent Tomb Raider reboot to the next-gen systems with a high-res facelift and DLC extras Graphics: The original version was gorgeous; this version is one of the best-looking console games I've ever seen Sound: The game features a great score and voice acting on par with a...

Facelift Faceoff

Last year's Tomb Raider reboot was a beautiful release for both PC and consoles. It stretched the ageing Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 to their limits, and also provided PC gamers with one of the year's greatest spectacles.

On par with PC version; 1080p on consoles

Nothing new added; Occasional FPS dips

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Review

Lara was reborn last year. She's been on the scene long enough to be one of the artefacts she spends her life seeking, but with the 2013 prequel Lara earned back her title as one of gaming's greatest icons.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

If you passed on 'Tomb Raider' when it released earlier in 2013, or opted to hold out for the Definitive Edition, now is a great time to experience this incredible franchise reboot; highly recommended on a current gen console.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition gives a facelift to a game that never required one in the first place. The original release of Tomb Raider was easily the best looking game the franchise has spawned in our opinion, so you can imagine how great the new release looks when running on a smooth 1080p...

Not a good game

The game play is mostly push button and on rails the game tried to mix in some traditional rpg elements but they come off as pointless to the game play outcome they could have concentrated the games efforts on making combat make any sense whatsoever

A.K.A. Lara's Really, Really Bad Day

Rebooting a franchise can be messy. You want to cater to the fan base that established the game series in the first place while recognizing that times have changed and that characters or even game design must evolve or be left behind in an ever changing medium.

-Island exploration is mesmerizing; -Legendary character has been improved; -Superb game pacing; -Enticing combat; -Fancy PS4 graphics

-Floaty jumps; -Weak upgrade system

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition review

Last year, I said " Tomb Raider is a resounding success and one of the best reboots this generation." One console generation later, and it's still one of the best games you can play on either Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

+ Looks amazing on PS4/Xbox One; + Lara is a strong protagonist; + Engaging combat; + Plenty of tombs to raid

- Pointless motion/voice commands; - Supporting characters are bland; - Enemies too good at tossing dynamite behind cover; - $80 to upgrade

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Review

It's one of the best Tomb Raider games ever made, and it'll live up to the Definitive Edition moniker for those gamers who never set foot on Yamatai Island last year.
