Tokina SD 12-24mm (IF) DX AT-X Pro review

With a fixed f/4 maximum aperture and an AT-X Pro designation it would be reasonable to expect a lot of the Tokina 12-24mm.

Handling and ergonomics

f/4 performance at 12mm setting

With the increasing popularity of digital SLRs with smaller than full frame digital sensors, there has come the demand for wide angle lenses specifically designed for this format. The Tokina AT-X 124 Pro DX 12-24mm is one of several new lenses intended to fit that need.

The Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X PRO DX II provides a narrow field-of-view, and a full-frame equivalent of 18-36mm. The lens features 13 elements in 11 groups with two aspherical elements designed to reduce chromatic aberration. The f/4 maximum aperture is constant throughout the zoom range.

Tokina AT-X Pro 12-24mm f/4 IF DX II

A wide-angle zoom lens designed for Canon and Nikon APS-C cameras, the Tokina 12-24mm offers good value and performance in a well-built package. Be prepared to engage in some post-processing work to eliminate a few of its flaws, however, like sporadic chromatic aberrations and slight distortion at...

Excellent build quality; Reasonably sharp throughout the focal range; Good colour balance

Not as wide as some other third-party (and first-party) lenses; Some chromatic aberration and halation issues

Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF PRO DX SD review by makcv113

I used this lens on a Canon 500D/T1i body. The build quality of this lens is that of a TANK! Feels solid, but feels like it outweighs an entry-level body. I adjusted to it, and never had a problem with it.

Image quality; tough build; zoom range; constant aperture F4

my lens crapped out on me; slow aperture F4

Top peice of equipment ans a joy to use.

After much research and reading many online reviews I chose the Tokina over the Nikon. This decision was largely made because of cost with the Nikon lens being so much more expensive.
