Loved this lens til I got actual canon lens

I bought actual canon lenses in other focal lengths now I am looking to replace this. There is no comparison. You do get some good images with this but not nearly as high quality. It has worked well for me for a few years. When you zoom in all the way does not focus well and extremely "soft" images.

Nikon DSLR owners beware

This is a fast lense for sure. However, it has MAJOR focusing problems even under moderate lighting. I tried mounting it on my D5100 as well as my older D70s. Even the cheap kit lense does a marvelous job of focusing as compared to this one.

Ok lens if you're willing to settle for mediocrity

I expected better image quality from this lens. To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement. I own other Tamron lenses that far exceed the optical qualities of this lens.

Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) (Nikon) - Review / Lab Test Report

The Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR (forgive me for using a shorter variant of the name ...) proved to be a very good lens in the lab. The resolution figures are among the highest tested among the standard zoom lenses - the center resolution is generally excellent and the borders follow closely on...

Features & handling This lens has a very compact design, and has a good feel to its barrel. Focus and zoom controls are well designed and easy to operate. The lens is constructed from 15 elements in 13 groups and there are seven aperture blades.

Great price for a 2.8 constant aperture. Lightweight. Autofocus is inconsistent and a touch slower than I hoped for. Range is not wide enough for a "walkaround lens" on a 1.6 crop camera. I have seen some excellent images come from this lens on other user's galleries.

f/2.8

Autofocus inconsistent; Lens filter size is unique to Tamron; therefore my other lenses require other filters

Well worth the money

I use this lens for portraits, events, and low-light shots. The fact that it is so small and light-weight is a definite bonus. The constant f2.8 really pays off in low light situations. Compared to the big, heavy Nikon, I really prefer this lens.

Consistent Output; Lightweight; Sharp Focus

Slow Focus; Weak Casing

Great pro quality lens

These lens are great, and not just for the price. They are well constructed, feel nicely weighed in the hand, and not plasticky. They are reasonably heavy, but I see it as an asset, since it makes it easier to hold the camera steady. The output has been consistently sharp photos.

Consistent Output; Durable; Sharp Focus

Slow Focus

90% of Canon 24-70 f/2.8 for 1/4 price

I have both this Tamron lens + my wife insisted on buying latest and greatest Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. I tested both lenses and my not very professional conclusion is: 1) their sharpness is absolutely the same except 2.8 where Canon is a bit better 2) Tamron is lighter and more compact...

Don't want to dump a grand on Nikon's 2.8zoom... Tamron has a great alternative

The Tamron 28-75 XR AF is one of my favorite lenses. It's hard to beat the quality, speed and price

Inexpensive; 2.8 aperature; quick focus; zoom lock; a good product overall

Body could be constructed tougher; could be sharper; sunshield is made of really weak plastic
