The drive itself is amazing. It's tiny, light, and fast as hell, truly living up to the promised 550 MB/s. That said, if you plan to use this drive for anything other than movies, music, and pictures, you need to format it before using it.

First, the bad: I bought this because my Windows laptop has a USB Type-C port. It wouldn't read this drive through that port, even though it reads other Type-C drives I've used. It is automatically formatted to exFAT, which both Windows and Macs read.
So I use a 2012 era MacBook Pro updated with SSD / 16 gig RAM and have it pretty loaded. While it does not have a USB-C connector in these older Macs, I put the USB 3 adaptor on it, ran Carbon Copy Cloner and copied the ENTIRE hard drive in short order (sorry I didn't notate the time, my impression...
I was impressed with the size and quality of the external drive. I did have some problems getting the drive to open up and then again allowing me to move files from my computer to the drive. It was a bit more complicated to use than the other external drives I have purchased in the past.

Difficult to Use
SanDiskSecureAccess V3.0.1 to store encrypted files does not run on many laptops. I tried SanDisk Flash Drive and I tried SanDisk Extreme SSD. They both do NOT work. The OK button to setup the password to the encrypted drive is ALWAYS grayed out!!!
