Pentax AF-540FGZ review by ccallana

This is a solidly built, fully featured flash. When I bought it I realized I probably didn't need all the features, but thought I'd grow into them, and didn't want to have to upgrade later. The auto zoom head works perfectly, and P-TTL exposes well.

Bright; Full Featured; Tilt/Swivel; Well built

Heavy; Expensive

Pentax AF-540 FGZ new user

Having recently bought the Pentax K10D I found myself looking for a good flash unit that would meet my high expectations of build quality, ease of use, and functionality. After going to a local photo store to check out the Sigma 500 Super DG flash, I decided to go with the Pentax 540.

Powerfull; easy to use; awesome wireless capability; good construction

Pricy

Nice flash unit

Haven't had a great need for a flash unit, the on-camera flash has been sufficient. But I'm finding that the subjects I'm currently shooting require something more versatile with greater output. The AF-540 fills the requirements.

Powerful Output; Versatile

My experience with flashes is as follows : Pentax AF280T, Vivitar 285HV, Pentax AF500FTZ, Yongnuo 460, Yongnuo 560, Sigma 530 ST DG and now the Pentax AF-540FGZ. I've tried a bit of everything.

Powerful; offers just about every control possible

No standard synch port

Great Flash, some design faults

I use the flash for weddings, portraits and photojournalistic images. I also own 2 x Yongnuo Flash YN560's. I recently had a Metz mecablitz 52 AF1, but some NEW! Duracell batteries leaked and destroyed it (Do not bury Duracell, they refused to accept responsibility despite the scientific report).

Consistent Output; Easy To Use; Fast Recycling; Lightweight; Powerful Output; Versatile

Battery Door; Plastic foot
