The Panasonic Lumix S1R is the highest-resolution full frame mirrorless camera yet to hit the market....
Superb resolution; 4K video at 60/50p; Dual image stabilization; Solid handling; Twin card slots/formats
More expensive than rivals; Limited lens system so far; 360/340-shot battery life; Rivals better for action
The S1R has a list price of $3699. Alongside the camera, Panasonic announced 50mm F1.4, 24-105mm F4 and 70-200mm F4 lenses for the L system. They are priced at $2299, $1299 and $1699, respectively.
And the cost is a concern. The $3,700 asking price is more than the Nikon ($3,400) or Sony ($3,200) alternatives. A paucity of affordable lenses compounds matters, though that's sure to be addressed as Sigma has announced plans to release some lower-cost lenses in L-mount.
Excellent 47MP full-frame sensor; 5-axis sensor stabilization; Big, sharp EVF; Good control system; Backlit control buttons; Protected from dust and splashes; Top information LCD; 4K video at up to 60fps
More expensive than competitors; Obnoxiously heavy; Contrast focus limits tracking speed and burst rate; Limited lens selection
What a piece of kit. Panasonic might be new to the full-frame market, but with a debut like the S1R, it's safe to say we've got a real contender on our hands. It has pro-level controls and build, and produces superb images.
Superb image quality; Pro level controls and build; SD and XQD memory card slots
One of the larger mirrorless cameras on the market; Weak battery life; More expensive than similar cameras
The Panasonic Lumix S1R is blessed with an effective image stabilization system, a cracking EVF and a solid build, while its image and video quality also impress. The AF system is behind its peers, however, and the camera doesn't really exhibit any size and weight advantages over equivalent DSLRs.
Stunning; best-in-class viewfinder; Excellent detail; even with 'kit' lens; Superb build quality; Very effective image stabilization; Great noise control at high ISOs; Buffer depth surprisingly good
Heavy and large body; AF system behind competition; Eyecup can get in the way of LCD; Some awkward controls; No real size/weight advantage over DSLR; Battery life not great
187 megapixels. That's the first number that comes to mind when I'm asked about the full-frame Panasonic Lumix S1R. It isn't the most important specification - nor is it all that useful for most photographers - but it is the most exciting.
Excellent image quality; Robust design and build quality; Best available electronic viewfinder; Good subject detection autofocus; 187MP high resolution mode
Gargantuan; Intermittent autofocus errors; Not as valuable as standard S1
The Lumix S1 and S1R are Panasonic's latest digital cameras , and they're a bit of a departure from the cameras the company has made in the past. These new Lumix models are Panasonic's first full-frame mirrorless cameras - meaning, in layman's terms, that the cameras have larger image sensors...
The Panasonic Lumix S1R is a full-frame mirrorless camera with 47 Megapixels, built-in stabilisation and 4k 60p video. it's one of two bodies launched by Panasonic as part of its new L-mount alliance with Leica and Sigma; the two new Lumix S bodies are differentiated by resolution with the S1...
