Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm/F1.7 ASPH Lens review

Slightly better cameras but otherwise, not much of an update - buy the iPhone 14 Pro or switch to Android instead

Better low-light photography, Slightly longer battery life, Action mode gives super stabilised video

The same performance as the iPhone 13, No Dynamic Island or Always-On display, 60Hz screen

Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm/F1.7 ASPH Lens review

The iPhone 14 comes to market with the same launch price as the previous generation. At the same time, iPhone connoisseurs were more than disillusioned after the presentation of the new smartphone. Apple leaves large parts of the hardware unchanged and does not dare to change the design.

Top performance level despite last year's chip, Very high quality workmanship, Improved image and video quality, Excellent battery life

Hardly any innovations, Charging takes too long for 2022

Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm/F1.7 ASPH Lens review

A slight camera upgrade, new emergency features, and... not a whole lot else

Better selfie camera, Good battery life, Crash detection and satellite SOS are neat

It’s more like an iPhone 13S, Display is still 60Hz, eSIM transition will be easy for most but painful for some

Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm/F1.7 ASPH Lens review

It’s a great handset, but the improvements are so iterative that most of you will hardly notice what’s new.

Action mode offers truly superb video stabilization. eSIM makes it easy to switch phones (with other iPhones). Satellite SOS and Crash Detection add peace of mind.

Many of the specs remain the same as on the iPhone 13. Small battery gains. Photonic Engine isn’t as revolutionary as suggested.

My favorite MFT lens

Let's get a few things out of the way - First, the lens definitely feels great but you won't mistake it for an actual Leica M lens. Second, I believe it's the only lens that carries the Summilux name but is an f/1.7 rather than a f/1.4 so that's a bit... odd.

Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 Review

Gary Wolstenholme reviews this new Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens with a manual aperture ring and a compact design.

Excellent sharpness; especially in the centre; Low falloff and CA; Robust build quality; Manual aperture ring; Fast focusing; Realistically priced; AF/MF switch is a useful addition

Aperture ring may not function on all Micro Four Thirds bodies; The auto setting on the aperture ring may be easy to select by accident; High distortion for a prime lens

Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Review

The Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. ($599.99) is a wide-angle lens with an all-metal build, a wide f/1.7 maximum aperture, and an aperture control ring. It's compatible with Micro Four Thirds cameras from Panasonic and Olympus, and is capable of capturing really terrific images with a 30mm (full-frame equivalent) field of view. It's quite similar in field of view, light gathering capability, and build quality to another Micro Four Thirds lens, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8($339.00 at Amazon), but it's a bit pricier. The Olympus 17mm earned our Editors' Choice award, and it remains our favorite prime Micro Four Thirds lens in this focal range, but the Summilux 15mm f/1.7 is a strong performer in its own right and shouldn't be discounted if you prefer a prime that's just a bit wider. The Summilux($597.99 at Amazon) isn't quite as small as the 1.4-by-2.3-inch (HD) Olympus 17mm, but at 1.9 by 2.5 inches and 3.8 ounces it still qualifies as compact. Addi...

The Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. is a sharp, compact lens with a wide aperture and all metal build, but it does exhibit a little bit of distortion.

Quite sharp; Wide aperture; Manual aperture ring; All-metal build; Includes lens hood

Some edge softness unless stopped down; Some distortion; Pricey

Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm/F1.7 ASPH Lens review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Panasonic Leica DG SUMMILUX 15mm/F1.7 ASPH Lens review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some
