This is a great lens, it exceeded my expectations and has become my go-to lens for out-and-about general photography.
Overall, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm ED VR lens does offer a useful focal range, well-implemented Vibration Reduction system, fast auto focus and respectable build quality, all in a relatively lightweight and compact design.
Handling and features A standard zoom for FX format DSLRs covering wide angle to telephoto focal lengths without the size, weight or cost of f/2.8 equivalents. This lens costs around £520 and includes Nikon's second generation VR system and silent focusing with full time manual focus override.
Launched in June 2012 and now a kit lens for the Nikon D600, this full-frame 24–85mm f/3.5–4.5G AF-S ED VR ($597, street) is Nikon's third version of its 24–85mm lens and the first with Vibration Reduction.
This is a great lens!!!! :) I would buy again. There is not a sign of any ware. Looks brand new.The auto focus is really fast. It takes amazing pictures! A ton better then the junk slow 18-55mm kit lens. The auto focus is really fast and it is dead on. Very sharp!!! The lens hood is junk.
I originally used only primes with my D810, but the price on a refurbed 24-85 was irresistible. It's not a low light lens, but it's become part of my daily kit. It's small, light and when stopped to f5.6 or f8 very sharp and the VR works. It's become one of my favorite lenses.
I purchased this lens nearly 5 years ago, and have used it with both the D40x and D5000 bodies. It has worked very well with a circular polarizer for predominantly landscape photography applications.
Very useful zoom range from wide angle @ 16mm (equivalent to 24 mm in a full-frame sensor / 35 mm film camera) to mild telephoto @ 85 mm (equivalent to 127.5 mm in full-frame sensor / 35 mm film camera).
- Heavy Lens - My lens has been back to Nikon for repair once - Not really a fair criticism (just FYI); because of the minimum focal length specs of my camera body for use with flash; BUT: Size of lens (diameter of barrel) can block part of flash lighting
Purchased this lens along side my D7000, and was initially sceptical. The lens is rather heavy and big. However once shooting it out and about, it's extremely versatile and with the D7000, any distortion is corrected. The weight doesn't really become an issue, and feels well balanced once in-hand.

Nice light sharp lens. Great for walk around and all around use. Price was right as well.
