The Fitbit Charge 3 isn't a drastic change over its predecessor, but it has enough small tweaks to make it one of the best everyday fitness trackers you can buy. The Fitbit Charge 3 is an easy-to-use tracker that’s a perfect size, comfortable and good at tracking your fitness and sleep. The main problem? It feels very similar to the Versa, which we were very fond of. It does mean that the Charge 3 sits in a funny position, as it’s got significantly less features than the Versa, but it’s only £50 less. So for many people opting for the slightly more expensive Versa over the Charge 3 would make more sense. There are some features that are going to be coming soon, like upgraded sleep tracking that gives you a sleep score, but we’re still twiddling our thumbs waiting. Fitbit has done a great job with the Charge 3 and as a standalone experience it’s one of the best activity trackers out there. But the brand better start creating products that occupy a more definite space in the range soon, as well as delivering on promised features, if it’s going to compete with the likes of Apple in the long-term.

The Charge 3 is the best fitness band the company have made to date but it’s hard to recommend over the flashier options available. As the crossover between the smartwatch and fitness band categories continues to grow, it’s hard not to see the Fitbit Charge 3 as a byproduct of obligation.

In improving the interface, display, features and battery life for a price that's less than the Charge 2’s RRP, Fitbit has successfully redesigned its most popular product with the Charge 3. Given that it comes two years after the Charge 2 we think it’s a warranted upgrade for Charge 2 owners, particularly if you desire the longer battery life and full waterproofing. And for first-time buyers, you won’t find a better-featured activity tracker on the market at such a fair price. It looks like a worthy upgrade to Fitbit's most popular-ever fitness tracker.

The Fitbit Charge 3 is quite the improvement over the Charge 2, but you should only upgrade if you're after a more slick, lightweight design, a slightly larger display and a few new fitness tracking features. It's now been superseded by the Charge 4, but remains a good choice if the lack of on-board GPS isn't a deal-breaker and you're on a tight budget.
