Digimon World: Next Order

Cards on the table here – I know next to nothing about the Digimon franchise; much like when Pokemon first rose to prominence, I was just that little bit too old to get caught up in all the madness and, despite younger relatives owning the old Tamagotchi-like devices and watching the series on...

Digimon World: Next Order Review – Mega Ambitious Game Falls a Bit Short

Digimon World: Next Order is the latest game based on the classic franchise, Digimon. Those familiar with the series or like to follow JRPG's will remember 2016's Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, also released on the PlayStation ecosystem.

Feels like the TV series; Digivolutions are fun; Rewarding death system

Dated graphics; Too many Digimon notifications; Extreme difficulty parameters

"Digimon World: Next Order is messy on almost every conceivable level. " © 2017 Bandai Namco, B.B Studio. All rights reserved.

So many Digimon; home base management is pretty fun

Slippery combat; overly dense menus; opaque mechanics; tons of roadblocks and difficulty spikes; repetitive gameplay cycle; banal story; grating sound design

Good game, was a big fan of Digimon World on the PS1. One negative aspect is that once one (or two which often happens) of your Digimon die, you have to train them for what seems like an hour or two straight before being able to progress through the story.
