Cooler Master SK630 Keyboard

Cooler Master releases their first mechanical keyboards using the elusive Cherry MX Low Profile RGB switches. The SK630 is a TKL form factor keyboard built with portability in mind that retains a strong configuration over function and form alike via both software driver support and onboard controls.

Extremely portable; low-profile keyboard with a minimalist design; Cherry MX Low Profile RGB Red switches provide a consistent and satisfying typing experience in the limited space available; Software driver provides extensive control over functionality and lighting; Full programmability and...

Software driver/Portal system is still unnecessarily confusing and needs to be unified; Stock keycaps are mediocre; made all the worse with the flat keycap design lowering ergonomics

Cooler Master SK630 Low Profile Mechanical Keyboard Review

When Cherry debuted its MX Low Profile mechanical switch back at CES 2018, we were promised several new keyboards using those new Low Profile switches. We've already seen the Corsair K70 MK2 RGB Low Profile , but today our attention turns to Cooler Master's SK630.

Very compact – less than 3cm tall; Impressive build quality considering the size; RGB lighting looks good; Low Profile switches are faster and shallower than their regular-sized counterparts; Lots of on-board controls; Removable USB-C cable

No switch variety – it's Red or nothing; No on-board master brightness control

Cooler Master SK630 Gaming Keyboard Review

Not everybody wants a keyboard with every possible feature packed into it. Many of the keyboards we consider the best options for gamers are very large: They take up a ton of space on your desk and you aren't going to pack them up when you leave your setup for vacation or a work trip. There are plenty of reasons to want something that's high-quality, but more compact. If you agree, then Cooler Master's tenkeyless keyboard, the SK630 ($139.99), is a solid option. This lightweight keyboard feels wonderful to type on and has a look you aren't going to find in many other gaming devices. It doesn't have the bells and whistles we tend to expect in a high-end peripheral, but it presents a strong argument for setting different priorities. Keep A Low Profile, But Make an Impression Since we don't review many of them, let's start by talking about low-profile keyboards. The defining characteristic of a low-profile keyboard is that it uses a switch with a quicker actuation point and less o...

Cooler Master's light, compact SK630 gives us good reason to start thinking more about a low-profile mechanical keyboard.

Minimalist look; Compact design; Good travel despite low-profile keys; Macro and lighting editor hotkeys reduce need for configuration software

Onboard hotkeys don't quite replace configuration software; Software can only store four profiles; Lacks extra features such as a volume roller and USB pass-through; RGB lighting can get too intense
