Canon EOS 70D Review: Video Rock Star

Switch the 70D into video mode, however, and all bets are off. While the 60D didn't offer continuous AF for video capture, the 70D does so, and does so with a vengeance. Continuous AF shooting video with the 70D is simply the best DSLR performance I have ever had my hands on, regardless of camera...

Good still image quality; Good ISO noise performance; Latest generation processing engine and technology; Touchscreen monitor offers quick control response; Exceptional DSLR video performance due to continuous AF

72 dpi still image output requires resizing for printing; Touchscreen monitor collects fingerprints and smudges; impairing legibility in bright conditions; Camera seems to lose highlights to a higher degree than the 60D at default settings

canon eos70d

The box is not properly sealed with just a small little circular piece of plastic which expands in heat. The goods could be returned and the retailer could sell this to another customer. Canon should sort this security seal so you know you are getting a brand new camera.

Canon EOS 70D DSLR, First in Video Focus - Review

How do you guys think the video quality and capabilities of the Canon 70D compares to the Panasonic GH3? Thank you in advance for any information you can give! The GH3 shoots 1080 60fps. That's one significant advantage. In your Review Techs Specs you say "VideoOut: HDMI (monitor and recording)".

Love the interactive touch screen....

Great features, relatively light weight, easy to find settings within the menu bar. Love the way the touch screen works to change any settings quickly and easily so I can take my shot if conditions change and I need to make an adjustment.

Easy to use; Build quality; Battery life; Screen size

Quick review: Canon EOS 70D

Canon's EOS 70D is not just a welcome follow-up to the 60D, it also surpasses its line and could serve as a viable alternative for the much loved 7D. In certain respects, the 70D is a curious animal.

Relatively compact and easy to hold; Full featured; excellent image quality; Highly responsive focusing system

Lack of full water sealing may deter prosumer users; Not as ruggedised as the 7D

Canon EOS 70D

The 20.2 megapixel sensor uses a Dual Pixel CMOS AF design in which every single pixel is split into two separately readable photodiodes, facing left and right. So in principle, each pixel is capable of phase-detection autofocus in Live View and Movie mode.

Innovative autofocus system; Articulated touch-screen LCD; Built-in Wi-Fi

Quite heavy

Canon EOS 70D: Review

In many respects, the Canon EOS 70D is an amazing camera. The flurry of 7 fps, with infinite buffer (or almost) and continuous autofocus, it is a strength indisputable, especially when you consider that the scanned files are 20 megapixels.

Excellent image quality; Excellent AF (also in Live View; 7 fps burst; Swivel touch screen; Good video mode

Placement of some keys improved; One SD slot; No AF-assist lamp

Canon EOS 70D review

At first glance the Canon EOS 70D may look like just another DSLR. But it's oh so much more than that: the 70D wages all-out war against not only the rest of the mid-level DSLR market, but also has the technology to take on mirrorless models - often called compact system cameras - too. How so?

Dual Pixel autofocus closes the live view gap between DSLR and CSC cameras - it's very impressive; proven 19-point AF system works well in most lighting conditions; 7fps burst at full resolution with decent buffer; great image quality; responsive touchscreen; long-lasting battery life,...

Not 100% FoV viewfinder; high ISO noise reduction a little rough; autofocus can unwontedly drift between subjects during movie capture; no headphone jack for audio monitoring; some overexposure; filters unavailable in raw + JPEG shooting; single SD; Wi-Fi functionality needs improving
