Canon 70D DSLR Review: Fast Focus for Stills and Video

If you're in the market for a DSLR that excels in both still photography and video recording, Canon's EOS 70D is the camera for you. Color and detail are excellent. This DSLR's responsive and accurate autofocus system lets you precisely follow moving subjects, and easy-to-reach controls let you...

Fast autofocus and tracking in video and live view; Easy one-handed operation for essential settings; Wi-Fi equipped for photo transfers; remote control; Very sharp images and accurate color

Tedious wireless and white balance controls; Somewhat bulky

Disappointed

I purchased this a couple of years ago and have had problem after problem with it not working correctly. I have sent it in to be fixed yet the problems continue. I have backup Canon Rebel t1i and continue to use that more often and it works fantastic. I am really disappointed in the 70D.

Canon's flagship APS-C camera finally delivers on the video DSLR promise-with a catch.

Since Nikon released the D90 in 2010, the promise of a do-everything, video-capable DSLR for consumers has largely gone unrealized. While practically every DSLR can shoot full HD video these days, none have made capturing everyday clips the accessible, convenient experience that it is on camcorders...

Canon EOS 70D: Review

In many respects, the Canon EOS 70D is an amazing camera. The flurry of 7 fps, with infinite buffer (or almost) and continuous autofocus, it is a strength indisputable, especially when you consider that the scanned files are 20 megapixels.

Excellent image quality; Excellent AF (also in Live View; 7 fps burst; Swivel touch screen; Good video mode

Placement of some keys improved; One SD slot; No AF-assist lamp

Dual Pixel AF sensor delivers the best AF performance for a DSLR during live view; 19-point AF system is excellent; High quality touchscreen interface; Image nosie performance; Solid constructino; Wi-fi connectivity

Creative filters only active during live view (and JPEG only); AWB can deliver too neutral results on some occasions

This camera is better then the 7d!!

I got this camera to replace my t2i and compared its night and day the 70d is fast. I used the wifi to take a picture and every one was how did you do that with your cell phone. they where amazed. I like how fast it keeps focus and stays on a subject.

a lot of new features WiFi / new dual pixel

so far nothing

Amazing Quality & Love the Flip LCD touchscreen!!

ABSOUTELY LOVE! Arrived on time with solid packaging. I order just the body because I already had lens for it. The video quality is amazing - bright and clear and the sound is great. I will be ordering a shot gun mic in the future but for now the sound recorder works perfect.

Canon EOS 70D review

At first glance the Canon EOS 70D may look like just another DSLR. But it's oh so much more than that: the 70D wages all-out war against not only the rest of the mid-level DSLR market, but also has the technology to take on mirrorless models - often called compact system cameras - too. How so?

Dual Pixel autofocus closes the live view gap between DSLR and CSC cameras - it's very impressive; proven 19-point AF system works well in most lighting conditions; 7fps burst at full resolution with decent buffer; great image quality; responsive touchscreen; long-lasting battery life,...

Not 100% FoV viewfinder; high ISO noise reduction a little rough; autofocus can unwontedly drift between subjects during movie capture; no headphone jack for audio monitoring; some overexposure; filters unavailable in raw + JPEG shooting; single SD; Wi-Fi functionality needs improving

Great upgrade

Upgraded to this from a 550D which I had for around 18 months.
There are a lot more features on this compared to the 550D. All useful. I've had the 70D for just over a month, it takes some getting used to as the settings, buttons and dials are all in different places, but once you find your way...

Great Features; Great Picture Quality; Great Touch Screen; Lots Of Features

Quite Heavy
