Outstanding lens for macro work, but equally great for portraiture. Superb sharpness. Best to manual focus using a tripod for macro images. Canon is all I use because it's the best !

Excellent optics. Light weight. Great portrait lens. I use it for travel because it is light and compact. Beats a heavy telephoto zoom.
I bought this lens because I cannot afford a 70-200 f4IS and darn sure cannot afford the 2.8. I want the f4 non IS, but the 100 f2 was a good compromise. I really LOVE how this lens pops from 2.0-2.8. People think I photoshop my images in because they look almost 3 dimensional.
Bokeh and Length; The photos reaally seperate from the background
CA in bright light (Can be fixed in Post Processing
I will not say anything that is already known about this lens. The Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens is a very sharp, the 100 f/2 to be sharp at f/2, corner sharpness is good as well. The AF motor is silent and is super-fast and quiet. Very good bokeh!
Beautiful, un-assuming compact lens, great where flash is not allowed, and for indoor/shaded sports. Fantastic colour rendition, razor sharp for portraits - is it possible to be too sharp
Lightweight; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus
I bought this lens 4 months ago. Its really sharp wide open, has no noticeable Vignetting on my 50d. Its quick to focus and the bokeh is awesome. If you compare it to the 50mm f1.8 or 1.4 this lens is waay sharper wide open. Colours are really nice too.
Canon Macro EF 100 L. fantasic medium tele lens, purpose built for macro, great as a medium portrait lens. This is one of the superior lenes in this class.
I've only used this for weddings so far, but LOVE it! It's great for low light ceremonies, and sharp images. This lens exceeded my expectations.
Purchased this lens for astrophotography. Color correction is good and stars are sharp to the corners when stopped a little.
Fast; Lightweight; Sharp across field
I use this for outdoor portraits since it allows me to create nice background blur with my full frame camera. If using a crop body, I'd suggest the 85 or even a 50mm lens.
Nice bokeh (background blur), quiet and fast focus; No problems after one year
You have to use a fast shutter speed or a tripod; A 100 mm lens needs a steady hold
