PS4 Review - 'Call of Duty: WWII'

Buy Call of Duty: WWII After four games that featured progressively futuristic abilities, maps, and weapons, Call of Duty: WWII marks a return to a historical setting. It continues the trend of providing three ways for players to get their gaming fix: campaign, multiplayer, and the zombies mode.

(PlayStation 4 Review) Call of Duty: WWII

It says something about the trajectory of the Call of Duty series that a return to World War II makes it feel like a new setting-well, new-ish. Though I am still working on finishing up the game, Call of Duty: WWII by Sledgehammer Games has been good so far. As far as the single-player missions the game is worth playing but I did find some pitfalls and parts that could have been done better or left out of the game.

Call of Duty: WWII

The first image in Call of Duty: WWII is of the Call of Duty logo, within which can be seen black-and-white documentary footage from World War II. It's a literal representation of the way in which this franchise has come to crassly appropriate history for the purposes of entertainment.

When Advanced Warfare dropped in 2014, it took Call of Duty in a new direction. Snappy lateral dashes, and an emphasis on verticality remapped the series' DNA for years to come. But – as with anything – fatigue set in. Players longed for simpler gameplay, and a return to more traditional movement.
