Next level: iPhone 7 Plus camera review

The Apple iPhone 7 Plus can't quite keep up with the best in terms of pixel-level detail but otherwise delivers very good image quality all-around. Its unique selling point is its dual-camera with a 56mm 'tele-lens.' It allows for the best zooming of all current smartphones, offers an alternative angle of view to the wide-angle and works well in Apple's new portrait mode. There is room for improvement as far as the dual-camera's low-light performance is concerned, but overall the system is a true step forward for mobile photography.
Pros:
  • Zooming, people photography, video
Cons:
  • Low-light photography with the longer lens

Apple iPhone 7 Plus review: The photographer's phone

The iPhone 7 Plus is one of the best point-and-shoot cameras ever -- and it's a great phone, too. Editors' note (Sept. 12, 2018): The iPhone 7 Plus reviewed here is now available at a reduced price of $569. See all of the new iPhones and new products that Apple just announced.
Pros:
  • Dual rear cameras delivers true 2x optical zoom, with a cool bokeh Portrait mode
  • Battery lasts longer than last year's model, and longer than iPhone 7
  • Water resistant
  • Fast
  • Bigger storage options include 256GB model for serious photographers.
Cons:
  • There's no standard headphone jack: you'll have to use Lightning, or the included adapter, or go wireless
  • Design is showing its age, as competing phones squeeze a 5.5-inch screen into smaller, sexier bodies
  • And it's really expensive.

It's faster than its predecessor, has a better screen and more storage, and it's water-resistant. The new dual-lens camera is very good and the 2x optical zoom works brilliantly. About the only thing that hasn't really changed is the exterior design.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus Review

Somewhat akin to Intel, Apple has trained consumers on its "tick-tock" cadence of releasing a newly designed iPhone and following it up a year later with an optimized "s" variant. That's been the formula since the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS were released in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
Pros:
  • Blazing fast A10 Fusion SoC
  • higher-capacity storage options
  • IP67 dust and liquid protection
  • improved camera system
  • Taptic Engine is very convincing at simulating a physical button press
  • slightly larger battery
Cons:
  • Poor quality secondary (stereo) speaker
  • third year with the same design
  • no headphone jack -- which didn't bother me but is a point of contention for some

The Huawei Nova 3i has a slick design, a great feel and is packed with top shelf features but without the flagship price. And the onboard camera will deliver excellent results as well. The device has a sleek, thin design with a bright 6.3-inch high resolution (2340 x 1080) display.
Pros:
  • Sleek design
  • Cool Iris Purple colour
  • Excellent camera back by AI
  • Impressive performance
  • Fast Face Unlock and fingerprint reader
Cons:
  • Not water resistant
  • No HDR Pro on the front cameras
  • No NFC
  • No USB-C port

iPhone 7 Plus Review

An important leap forward for Apple smartphones, but the Plus-sized model still isn't for everyone. A worthy upgrade from the iPhone 6 or earlier, but not so much if you still have last year's model.

The Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus reviewed: Are they worth your money?

The Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus might not have the bells and whistles or spanking new design of their competitors, but they are still undoubtedly two of the best smartphones in the market. Personally, the dual-camera of iPhone 7 Plus is enough for me to upgrade my iPhone 6s Plus.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus

The Apple iPhone 7 Plus is the best iPhone, with a better screen than the iPhone 7, a new telephoto camera, stronger battery life, faster processor and more memory. But it's a big beast - too big for some - and the price has risen yet again.
