Announced in July 2010, Tokina's AF 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro SD FX is the first in a new generation of ultra-wide angle lenses for cameras with 35mm-sized imagers. There's no point in buying this lens for a camera with an APS-C sized sensor because it's big and bulky and there are plenty of lighter...
Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO, an ultra-wide angle zoom lens that has a fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range.
Very good sharpness performance; Excellent build quality; Low falloff levels for this kind of lens; Price
Barrel distortion; Levels of chromatic aberrations towards the edges of the frame
This is a great lens for photographing indoors. I purchased mine for $549 at B&H photo with free shipping. I'm totally satisfied with this lens and I'm glad I found it cheaper.
Purchased lens in August of 2017. Used a couple of times without issue then back in bag. Recently needed to for work shoot and my Canon 6D MK II. Lens was no longer sending aperture information to the camera. I called the manufacturer and this is a known issue with compatibility with Canon cameras.
This is a great little addition to anyone's kit. I have to going between the Nikons 14-24 and this 16-28 for quite some time now and the number one reason I opted the Tokina was the value. Depending on your style of shooting and what you photographdepends on your lens selection.
28; Close Focus; Durable; PriceValue
A little soft; Heavy
Tokina is the smallest of the 3 big third-party manufacturers (Tokina, Tamron, Sigma). They offer a couple of fairly unexciting products but they're playing among the very best in one specific segment - ultra-wide angle lenses.
Much bigger than most lenses, and at more than twice the weight of some, the Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX is a chunky lens. That's because while other lenses are designed solely for use on cameras with APS-C or Four Thirds sensors, the Tokina is fully compatible with full-frame cameras.
Compatible with full-frame cameras; Autofocus using Tokina's new 'silent' DC motor is fast; quiet and accurate
No image stabilisation; No filter thread

The Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro FX Lens is an affordable, ultra wide angle lens with an also-ultra wide f/2.8 aperture available over the entire focal length range. That this lens is full-frame-compatible adds greatly to its desirability.
