When Street Fighter V is at its best, it's untouchable. A fantastic fighter with layer upon layer of depth. At its worst, it feels hollow and cheap. A work in progress that hasn't quite managed to complete the parts that are there.

In my nine years of reviewing video games professionally, I've never wanted to not score a game as much as I do for Street Fighter V . For all intents and purposes, this launch version of Street Fighter V is as ready to be reviewed in full as an Early Access game on Steam.
Robust fighting system that rewards skill; V-Skills; V-Triggers; V-Reversals; Satisfactory roster so far; Strong training options; Survival mode; Generally smooth online performance
Story Mode is an afterthought; No Arcade mode or Versus CPU option; Minor clipping issues; Tags
Street Fighter V is a superb fighting game, without a doubt…but it just feels unfinished in terms of content. I'm sure it'll be fleshed out over time through DLC and patches, I just wish it launched in a more complete state.

I've been playing Street Fighter since I was five years old, the SNES version of vanilla Street Fighter II being a huge gateway into all video games. Every new release brings me excitement…until Street Fighter V 's limited launch two years ago left a bad impression.
Great new modes; Vastly increased roster…for newcomers; New gold-tinted UI
DLC still behind paywalls; Difficulty spike can be NUTS
