The Sony 50mm f1.4 is a great lens for portrait on crop censor i use it with my Sony A700 for portraiture, center and border sharpness is excellent at aperture 2.0 and up it produces consistently sharp photos i am very happy with it the only negative is noise focusing mechanism.
Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Easy To Clean; Lightweight; Sharp Focus
Noisy focuse
Works as expected. A good lense.
Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZA SSM lens, a standard prime lens for use with Sony A-mount cameras which sports a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture and silent focusing.
Superb build; Fantastically sharp when stopped down; Quick to focus; Reasonably lightweight ofr its size and build
High CA at fast apertures; Fairly poor sharpness towards the edges of the frame at f1.4
This new Sony lens in impressively sharp in the center, and really sharp in the corners as its should for its price tag; Interestingly it was released at the same time as Rokinons first autofocusing lens, also a 50mm 1.4 for the E mount that's less than half the price.
About 20% too large and expensive
The Sony Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ($1,499.99 direct)( at Amazon Canada) is the top-end standard-angle prime lens for Sony D-SLR cameras. It's a more expensive version of the older Sony 50mm f/1.4( at Amazon Canada), but it's one that's been designed with very little compromise in terms of optical qualities. The Zeiss lens is sharp from edge to edge, even at wide apertures, is very solidly constructed, and features a built-in focus motor. It's also a bit bigger and heavier than the less expensive standard 50mm f/1.4, but if you're in search of image quality above all, its extra size and cost are worth it. The Planar T* measures 2.8 by 3.2 inches (HD), weighs in at a hefty 1.1 pound, and supports large 72mm filters. The lens barrel is metal, with a large manual focus ring, and a reversible hood is included. The build quality is definitely a step above other lenses. The minimum focus distance is about 1.5 feet (0.45 m); focusing that close at f/1.4 produces a very shallow d...
The Sony Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 is very sharp from edge-to-edge, but it shows some distortion and is on the expensive side.
Impressively sharp; Excellent depth of field control; Captures a ton of light; Great build quality
Some barrel distortion; Big; Expensive
The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.
Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features
Design too familiar, Some average features
“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”
Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features
60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some
The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.
Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance
Display could use some upgrades
