Brought this about a month ago - wanted that extra bit of reach for landscapes, and the small amount of sports photography I do for my baseball team. Considered the 70-200 F4 but couldn't justify the extra expense, bulk and weight when I don't really need the constant F4 aperture.
Sony's full format mirrorless system has been an immense success in recent years and with the release of the Alpha 9 they are now truly threatening the remaining native DSLR homelands. The FE system has been traditionally weak regarding very long tele lenses. However, Sony is trying to catch up now.
I'm an amateur photographer so I wanted a telephoto lens but didn't have the budget to spend on the 400. I picked this lens up and could not be happier with the performance. It is heavy, but so is any good telephoto lens.
DO NOT BUY for VIDEO!!! This lensa focus system is complete garbage. The speed in which you turn the focus ring determines the focus and not how much you move the focus ring. Itas not true manual focus making any repeatable focus move impossible and hence extremely impractical for video.
Sony's mirrorless system has matured in many ways since its 2013 launch. There are a bevy of first- and third-party lenses available, including ultra-wide-angle, macro, fast primes, and even specialty manual focus options. Telephoto coverage has been a weak point, though, with the FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS as the longest telephoto option available to this point. The FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS ($1,199.99) extends that reach, although it doesn't have as much wide-angle coverage. It's an excellent performer, and a solid choice for covering wildlife and sports with the Sony system, especially when paired with an APS-C body like the Alpha 6300. Design The 70-300mm ($1,273.00 at Amazon) is a hefty lens, but reasonably sized for a telezoom with full-frame coverage. It measures 5.7 by 3.3 inches (HD) when set to the 70mm position, weighs about 1.9 pounds, and supports 72mm front filters. It extends when zoomed, and includes a lock switch so you can prevent the barrel from creeping out inad...
The Sony FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS is a solid telezoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, but a narrow aperture limits use in dim light.
Good telephoto zoom range; Strong image quality; Quick autofocus; Sturdy build; Optical stabilization; All-weather design
Pricey; Narrow aperture; Some pincushion distortion
The Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS Lens is a right choice for those looking for a relatively long range of telephoto focal lengths in a compact package with a moderate price tag.
I bought this lens for my travel pictures three months ago and it has taken some great shots even under reasonably low light its image stabilization and lightness make it the ideal lens for travell.
