I bought this lens despite the reviews. All I can say is that on my A7R sharpness is good and provided you stay within 26-60mm I see very little difference between F4 and F8 in the corners. At the 2 extremes there is some blur in the corners so they are best avaided

Sony's new FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM (model SEL2470GM) lens is one of three G-Master lenses that were announced in February 2016 and are now becoming available in stores. A key feature of this lens is the constant f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range.

From an optical quality point of view, there is not a lot to say against this 24-70mm GM lens. Sharpness is definitely its strongest point: the results are excellent all the way through, at all focal lengths and all main apertures from corner to corner.

I love this lens. It is very sharp. Every time I look at the pictures I say it was worth the money.
