Sony Cyber‑Shot RX10 IV Review

Sony's Cyber-shot RX10 IV will make you a believer in all-in-one cameras.

Very high-quality stills and movies; 25x telephoto Zeiss lens; Eye AF function is outstanding; Features designed for amateur filmmaking; 1-inch stacked sensor

Tends to overexpose in auto mode; Sony's menus are still hard to navigate

Awesome package but bulky/heavy

I bought this after going to Antarctica with only a mobile phone and regretting the quality of the photos/movies I shot. I just returned from Russia and wow, I was amazed at the number of good shots from this camera. Yes, there were a few moments it would not focus (ie.

Build quality

Complicated; Bulky

Like the RX10 Mark III , the Sony Cyber-shot RX10 IV continues to offer the excellent 25x optical zoom Zeiss lens with a bright f/2.4 aperture at the wide-angle end of the lens, and a bright f/4.0 at the telephoto end of the lens.

Switching between NTSC / PAL requires a memory card format; JPEG Super Fine not an option when shooting JPEG+RAW; Raw not available at the same time as creative effects; Touchscreen of limited use; Menus could be improved; Price

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV Review

Sony's RX10 series has delivered premium image quality in a fixed-lens, bridge camera design since its introduction. The fourth edition, the RX10 IV ($1,699.99), upgrades the image sensor to include phase detection focus, so it can shoot at up to 24fps while tracking subjects. That's a big plus for sports and wildlife photographers who want to pack light—the camera has 600mm reach. It delivers image quality that's better than superzooms with small sensors, and also offers best in class capture speed and autofocus. Not everyone needs this type of power, however, and you can save a few hundred dollars without sacrificing image quality by opting for our Editors' Choice RX10 III. But if you don't mind paying some extra money for additional speed, the RX10 IV is worth the premium. Design The RX10 IV ($1,698.00 at Amazon) is nearly physically identical to the RX10 III. It's designed in a bridge style—the body is similar in size and shape to an SLR, but the lens is integral to the design...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV camera delivers an incredible zoom range and uses a stacked sensor design and phase detection focus for 24fps image capture.

25x zoom lens; Large 1-inch sensor; Phase detect autofocus; 24fps Raw capture with tracking; Dust- and splash-resistant design; Touch LCD and EVF; Top info LCD; Wi-Fi; 4K video and 1080p slow-motion

Very expensive; No in-lens neutral density filter; Hood blocks flash at wide angles; Can't start a video when still buffer is in use

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX10 Mark IV 20MP Digital Camera - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX10 Mark IV 20MP Digital Camera - Brand New review

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Display could use some upgrades

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX10 Mark IV 20MP Digital Camera - Brand New review

It's easy to get carried away and lose sight of just how far we've come in the smartphone world. Apple's iPhone 14 is 7.8 millimeters thick but can communicate directly with satellites, boasts photographic talents that eclipse dedicated cameras and action cams, and does so starting at just $799.

Improved low-light camera performance, Clever safety features (you hope you won't need)

Improvements feel evolutionary, eSIM may prove a headache, iPhone 13 offers much the same for $100 less

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX10 Mark IV 20MP Digital Camera - Brand New review

The iPhone 14 is better than its predecessor, but it's also more expensive and doesn't have many significant upgrades.

Even faster, with a better camera and more features.

Charger is optional. Lacks telephoto lens. Price has been increased.

With the RX10 IV, a lot of these user experience and reliability complaints have been addressed. The sensor comes from the RX100 V , bringing phase detect AF to the camera, which results in more reliable autofocus with almost no hunting. A touchscreen allows for painless AF point placement.

Casual sports, action and wildlife shooters; World travelers, family vacation photography, videographers looking for a high-quality all-in-one solution

Sports and action photographers wishing to zoom while also maintaining focus on a moving subject
