Love it. Great camera.
Sony’s latest APS-C mirrorless features some remarkable technology, says Andy Westlake, but is let down by its out-dated body design.
Astonishingly capable subject-tracking autofocus; Excellent image quality in almost any shooting situation; High level of control customisation available; Relatively compact size and decent build quality; Astonishingly capable subject-tracking autofocus; Excellent image quality in almost any...
Out-dated body design is much less pleasant to use than its competitors; Control setup is poorly-configured out of the box; 16:9 LCD screen gives small display area for 3:2 stills; Minimal touchscreen functionality; No in-body image stabilisation; Out-dated body design is much less pleasant to use...
The Sony A6400 is easily the best example of the highest-quality available in the market. It’s an extraordinary value for the money and is a great addition to the Sony A7-series because of its wonderful features.
Tilting LCD screen for vlogging; Built-in flash and limitless recording; Fast and responsive autofocus system; Updated button for spontaneous control; Multiple video functions for any type of movie
External controls are limited; Battery is not very long-lasting; Menu system is not easy to maneuver
Sony Alpha 6400 is a great video camera and not because it can shoot in 4K. Every camera does that now....
A handful of key issues prevent Sony’s small, fast shooter from being a resounding triumph
Lightning fast, super accurate autofocus, Small, lightweight body, Generally strong all-round image quality
Some awkward ergonomic choices, No in-body stabilisation, Very visible rolling shutter effect
It’s great that Sony has put the work in on the autofocus system for the A6400. It’s something that can really help photographers of all levels. Real-time Tracking aside, it’s not quite as fast or as reliable as the AF system in the Sony A9, but it’s very good, especially for a camera that is set to...

No Image Stabilization, Low Battery Life: 410 shots
To sum up, the Sony a6400 is a very, very likeable camera. It nails colour performance, and teams it up with great AF tracking, good ISO performance and great dynamic range. Video performance is its strength, and even in photography, the Sony a6400 more than holds its own ground.
When you think of a mirrorless camera that’s great at both photography and videography, odds are, you’re thinking of this one brand. The brand with four letters in its name, hails from the land of the rising sun, and has built up such an incredible reputation for itself in this space. Sony.
The Sony a6400 is great for travel photography. It's relatively portable and well-built, with some weather-sealing for more peace of mind when shooting outdoors. Battery life is also quite good relative to other mirrorless cameras.
Excellent overall autofocus performance., Great photo quality., Sturdy, portable design.
Ergonomics are somewhat lacking., Interface isn't especially user-friendly.
