Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM Lens

The 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM is the first large-aperture 50mm prime lens to be manufactured by Sigma and the company has gone to considerable lengths to include the latest designs and technology.

Sigma 50mm f1.4 EX DG HSM

The 'EX' in the name denotes this lens's superior optical and build quality, the 'DG' means that it's optimised for the smaller sensor areas of most DSLRs but will still work on a full-frame camera, and the 'HSM' stands for 'Hyper-Sonic Motor', Sigma's proprietary high-speed autofocus technology.

An beauty glamour headshot image taken with this lens @ f9.0 in studio with a Nikon D90 along with some brief details are avail for view here: http://glamourphotography.co/?p=6588 Some may say f9.0 is not a fair test of a fast portrait lens....

Great Bokeh; Very Sharp; 77mm Pro Filters

reasonable fast auto focus and great low Light performance

This thing blows the canon 1.4 and 1.8 out of the water. Solid build, reasonable fast auto focus and great low Light performance. This was my first sigma lens and I may consider upgrading it to the new 50mm model down the road.

Best for optics and price as long as you can get a good autofocusing copy

I was weary to buy this lens due to many review of the autofocusing not behaving. I bought 2 copies to hope that one would work with my camera. I noticed within the two copies that one was softer than the other. The autofocus is also not super at low light situations.

Worth Every Penny

Let me start by explaining my score of 4 on image quality. If I had the option I would give it a 4.8 rather than a perfect 5. When the aperture is wide open at f/1.4 images get 'creamy all over'. But with the right light this effect can be absolutely stunning!

Bokeh; Focus Speed; Sharpness

77mm filters

Stunning

I bought this lens mainly for portrait photography. I like it better than the canon version. I checked the reviews and photo samples of this lens and I must say, it's true enough that it is a nice lens.

More expensive than Canon, but WORTH it!

If you are looking for a new lens for your Canon DSLR camera, whether it be a full frame (like the C

Big glass that lets in lots of light!

A bit on the heavy side; but really no problem

Met my expectations and more!!

I'm a wedding photographer, so fast primes are a must for me, especially during indoor ceremonies/receptions, and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART lens for Sony did not disappoint! Physically, the lens has a clean, simple, and beautiful build.
