I was scared after reading reviews that it has some back focus problem... but it was fine! Plus, if there's any problem, you can always return and get a new one.
Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Strong Construction
Heavy
This lens has opened some doors for me with its f1.4 capabilities. I was trying to decide between this and the two more affordable canon 50mm lenses. Ultimately I sold myself on this output quality from this lens.
Low Light; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Sharpness; Strong Construction
Inconsistent focus
Every camera film or digital has set a benchmark. The images are truly world class and delivers excellent contrast and sharpness even in low light conditions.
This telephoto macro lens was the first lens I purchased for my DSLR. It was intended for insect macrophotography, and has not disappointed. At around f8, the lens is very sharp; it is softer wide open, but this is not a problem for macros as the depth of field at f2.8 is too shallow anyway.
Sharp image and 1:1 magnification
Clunky focusing system
Required factory focus recalibration. Still slightly front focusing, most noticeable wide open when there's little DOF. Re calibration process was painless. I paid to ship lens and camera body to sigma in Long Island NY, and they took it from there. Got it back in a few working days.
Image Quality Bokeh Fast; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction
Blurry Focus
While it's not cheap, the Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens provides great value for the money.
It would be nice if it had image stabilization
My reaction to every fast lens Sigma release seems to be "I can't believe something this good costs less than $1,000." A new favorite -- the 50mm f1.4 DG HSM -- joins Sigma's Art series of lenses, which already includes two of my all-time sub-$1K favorites, the 35mm f1.4 and 18-35mm f1.8 .
The Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens is a well-designed lens that performs very well for its price
It would be nice if it had image stabilization
Sigma turned more than a few heads when it hinted its 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art ($949) lens was poised to perform in the same league as the Zeiss Otus 55/1,4 . Sigma's older 50mm F1.4 EX DC HSM was a good lens, but it lagged behind the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G in sharpness, especially at the edges...
Incredibly sharp; Minimal distortion; 15.7-inch close focus; Available for several camera systems
Big; Depth of field scale isn't that useful; No optical stabilization; A little pricey; Dim corners at wide apertures
There have not been many Sigma lens announcements that generated the anticipation that the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens announcement generated. The 50 Art Lens was announced not long after the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 Distagon T* ZE Lens arrived, delivering a not-before-seen high level of...
