This is a very nice lens for the price. Heaps cheaper than a nikon comparable product, nice and sturdy and produces nice bokeh at open aperture.

This is one of my favorite lenses!! I love how fast the lens is and how close you can get to things. The images are amazing!!
If you don't know what you're talking about, don't review products, especially if you claim to have a high level of tech knowledge. Earwigy's criticism that the "depth of field is pretty bad" is a ludicrous statement. Without picking hairs, all f/1.4 lenses will have the same depth of field.
Relatively inexpensive, extremely fast prime; Autofocus is internal, pretty fast, and quiet; A little soft wide open, but sharpens up quickly as you stop down; Nice bokeh
A little soft wide open; If you upgrade to full frame, the lens is usless
Perfect lens if it focused properly out of the box. Lens has a little front focus on my Rebel t3i. Sent to Sigma for calibration with camera body still waiting for it to return. Otherwise good quality lens.
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Great solid heavy build; Nice Bokeh; Smooth and weighted focus
Corner Sharpness
The Sigma 30/1.4 DC HSM is capable of yielding impressive results, as long as focusing is accurate. Center sharpness was good even wide open and vignetting was well controlled. Distortion was low and chromatic aberration, though present, was again well controlled.
Great prime! This has been on my 7D at least 90% of the time since I've purchased it. Abes has new the version with Sigma's new finish which has been working great, although I did have to set MA to -3.
Fast / accurate auto-focus; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Strong Construction
Chromatic aberration
Some may use it for landscape shots due to the slightly wide angle aspect to it, although having said that I think it is aimed at indoor shooting where there is an inadequate amount of lighting due to the very bright aperture. It's one of Sigma's DC range of lenses.
indoor shooting where there is an inadequate amount of lighting due to the very bright aperture
funky with depth of field
There is really no beating a prime lens for low light photography. Even the fastest zoom lenses are never faster than F2.8 (aside from the two very impressive and very expensive Pro level zooms from Olympus that are F2.0) and such, the best bet for dim rooms and night shots is a real quick prime...
First and foremost, the headline feature of this lens is the exceptionally fast 1.4 aperture; Wide open you will be able to shoot with shutter speeds 4 times faster than even the quick zoom lenses with their 2.8 apertures, The image quality is very good all things considered.
As expected, the lens is a bit soft wide open, the problem is really only apparent however towards the edges; It is however well within acceptable tolerances, The focus on my example back focused by a few millimeters at a distance of about a foot and a half.
