The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM ART OS promised many things ... and delivered only a few of them. Let's start with a positive aspect - throughout the zoom range it is darn sharp in the broader image center.

Nice compact lens...bought this especially for the Grand Canyon trip. Served me well. A bit on the heavy side But with all that glass, it is inevitable. I guess we got to keep doing this until cell phones can surely replace DSLRs.
For enthusiasts and pros on a budget, the 24-70mm F2.8 Art delivers everything you need.
Excellent value; Great build quality; Virtually no chromatic aberration; Optically stabilized
Strong vignetting at 24mm; Sharpness is merely decent
After doing my research I an so glad that I got this lens. It is sharp wide open, focus is fast. The depth of field is great also.
For everyday shooting, a standard zoom lens is the go-to optic for most DSLR owners, so it pays to get a good one. The latest own-brand Canon and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses have equally fast aperture ratings and are built to satisfy the most discerning professional photographers.
Sublime image quality; Excellent build quality; Great handling
Large 82mm filter thread; Typically heavy for an f/2.8 zoom; Not fully weather-sealed
This is my workhorse lens. I shoot with a lot of prime lenses and this is actually the only multi-focal lens that I own. Images come out super sharp. I use this more for landscape and architecture shots but I don't think it'll have any trouble doing portraits.
I use it with Sony A7R-III and Canon 17-40 L, Canon 70-200 f4 IS L, and Sigma 24-105 f4 lenses, and it works fine. Curiously, there is VERY slight rotational play (not visible but you can "feel" it) in the lens mount with the Sigma lens, probably within tolerances, but does not affect use or image...
The Sigma 24-70 ARt lens is not a bad lens, but in Sigmas SUPERB Art series line up it simply does not perform as well as other ART series lenses. I own numerous Sigma ART (prime) lenses, and all of them (aside from this one) are absolutely superb.
The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Art is, like the competing model from Tamron, an attempt to deliver a wide aperture standard zoom for full-frame SLRs at a reasonable price and with image stabilization. That's beyond ambitious.
Consistent performance through zoom range; Optical stabilization; Solid build; Dust and splash protection; Available for multiple systems; Attractive price
Weak edge performance at f/2.8; Dimmed corners; Visible chromatic aberration; Some distortion
