Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 review: a killer tablet for multimedia and productivity

Samsung has been making tablets since the second half of 2010, trying to close the gap between its own market share and the current tablet market share leader, Apple. Currently, Apple holds a 36 percent share of the tablet market.

The Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 is currently only available in 16GB with Wi-Fi; Pricing starts at $399.99 plus applicable taxes, and can be purchased from Samsung and third-party retailers.

Review Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Wi-Fi Tablet

Samsung has been following the strategy of launching many models on the market to satisfy every customer for some time. This time the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4-inch model underwent our extensive tests. The Wi-Fi version enters the ring with a Snapdragon 800 , and seriously threatens the iPad Mini Retina .

Screen resolution; Screen brightness; High performance; Battery runtime; Temperature development; Expandable storage; We like the overall concept of the 8.4 inch tablet because it features the latest hardware; and barely leaves room for criticism

Flash memory could be faster; No major drawbacks are found in the Tab Pro 8.4.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 review

The Tab is the latest Samsung to get the Pro treatment, upping the spec to create one of the best mid-sized tablets out there -- though you'll pay a bit more for it. We looked at the 8.4-inch version of the Tab Pro, but there's also a 10.1-inch version available for £449.

Terrific screen; powerful processor; slim and sturdy build

On the pricey side

Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 review

When it comes to tablet strategy Samsung has saturated the market with devices of all sorts of sizes, with varying specs and running on different platforms. There's plenty of scope for confusion, as well as plenty of choice.

Fantastic display; plenty of power; useful software additions

Auto brightness; speakers a little lacklustre; high price; plasticky build

Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4

The Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 is the smallest of the TabPRO tablets measuring in at 8.4 inches and weighing a light 331 grams for the WiFi only version. Like the other tablets in this family, the TabPRO 8.4's display offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600.

Crisp display due to high pixel density; Excellent brightness and color balance; 10 hour+ battery life

Small screen not ideal for Multi-Window feature; Performance issues when flicking through homescreens

With a starting price of $400 (in the US), the Samsung Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 is among the most expensive tablets of this caliber. It costs as much as a 2-gen iPad mini and $100 more than an LG G Pad 8.3 , for that matter. But is this rather steep price tag justified? You betcha!

Gorgeous; high-res display; Thin and lightweight; Powerful hardware; Main camera takes good photos; Built-in IR blaster lets us control TVs and set-top boxes; Comes with the newest Android release; Nice Magazine UX optimized for tablet use

Speakers positioning isn't optimal for multimedia use; Magazine UX can't be turned off

Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4

The TabPRO is an impressive step-up compared with Samsung's 2013 range. The 8.4 inch model clearly has the  iPad Mini with Retina display  in its sights. Whilst it lacks the premium build quality of the iPad Mini, it's cheaper and is technically a match for the Apple, except in the one area of...

Outstanding display and flawless performance

I wanted an android tablet that was equal or better than my Ipad Mini. This Tab Pro 8.4 is the one. Watching movies is a real treat. The picture quality is astounding and the sound quality with my bluetooth plugable speakers completes the experience.
