Excellent upgrade to the "old" 50-200

The old 50-200 lens was a wonderful performer, and the SWD version does not disappoint. It continues to be solidly constructed and its focus is fast and accurate. My only complaint is the new lens hood makes packing it more difficult, but I appreciate the cut out for polarizer access that the new...

Very fast and accurate focusing

The new lens hood makes fitting into many camera bags more challenging.

Quality Lens

I use the lens fo capturing smaller birds such as hummingbirds. This lens focuses quickly letting me capture not only the bird but the motion of the wings based on the various alertness. This is a grea lens for out doors.

Strong Construction; Consistent Output; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Easily Interchangeable

Olympus 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 ED SWD Zuiko Digital

My background : Shot Pentax (K200D, K20D), Canon 40D, Nikon D90, D300, D700, and Sony A850. Advanced amateur. I bought this lens along with the 14-54 II when I moved to Olympus and let me tell you, it's great.

Sharp; fast; good weight for what it is; nice tripod collar; decent macro

Can hunt in certain situations (blame it on the camera); bokeh can get busy

Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm 1:2.8-3.5 SWD

Gary Wolstenholme tests the Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm lens which features a relatively bright maximum aperture and also has a silent SWD focusing motor.

Very good to excellent resolution; Negligible levels of chromatic aberration; Fast focusing; Excellent weather resistant build; Close focusing; Low distortion

A petal shaped hood may give better protection against flare

Very pleasing pictures from this lovely lens.

First things first. I am not a professional photographer. What I do have is 35 years experience with SLRs ranging from a Minolta 303b in the 1970s, Olympus OM2n when it first came out and a Canon F1n with associated good amateur lenses so I have a serious amateur interest that has brought a lot of...

REVIEW: Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 50-200mm 1:2.8-3.5 SWD

This 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 SWD lens from Olympus covers a range equivalent to 100-400mm on a 35mm camera and costs around £1000. Besides having a relatively bright maximum aperture, it also has a silent SWD focusing motor.

This lens is a gem and I use it quite often for sporting events, nature, wildlife, macros, and portraits. The 50-200mm is a perfect match with the 12-60mm and together they cover 95% of the shooting that I do.

Super sharp resolution and tack sharp focusing; Excellent DOF with wide open appetures; Extremely fast and quiet focusing; Water and dust resistant

A little heavy and the lens hood is enormous; but using a monopod seems to help take the load off

Olympus 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 Zuiko Digital review by dda

Left the Olympus camp for Nikon - do however loved this lens and the 12-60. Got it for a cheap price. Tried the SWD version. Preferred this one based on the price. Technically it's even a bit faster on some of the focal lengths (due to the SWD engine in the newer version they had to give in a small...

Monster that takes tack sharp pictures

It's a bit heavy
