The Olympus M.ZUIKO Digital ED 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO is another great addition to Olympus' growing family of professional lenses, helping to form a fast, well-built, weather-proof system that delivers excellent image quality. Image quality is excellent.
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO completes the Olympus trio of fast (f/2.8) professional quality lenses for serious enthusiasts and professional photographers. Adding an ultra-wide zoom range to the current M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm PRO and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm PRO lenses means...
I was really excited when Olympus announced this lens. And what to say - it's really a good lens! It's sharp and the close focus distance is really nice on an ultra wide angle zoom. Build quality is (as with all pros) really good.
sharpness; build quality; close focus
field curvature; too expensive; no filter thread
Olympus's previous 9-18mm MFT lens wasn't really built for high-end use, but this new lens ranks with the best super-wide zooms from Nikon and Canon.
An outstanding, one-of-a-kind lens. It is almost always in my bag, and if I can only take one lens, this is generally it.
114° angle of view at ?2.8 is simply incredible! When you take a picture on Wednesday, you have to be careful not to get Monday and Friday in the picture! Seriously, mind those feet and fingers; they end up in a lot of shots! Shooting movies with this, using Olympus IBIS, is a real experience.
I could wish for the ability to use filters; I could wish that the flare situation was better; I could wish it was smaller; lighter; and cheaper; but really; any lens in this category is going to be similar in these respects
Excellent lens, happy that I bought it
Ideal lens for enthusiast and maybe professionals. Too bulky for everyday use and not ideal if you are need to attach any filters. Auto focusing is fast and picture sharpness is great. No regrets with buying it.
Easy to use; Build quality
Bulky
Theres not many native, Ultra wide angle autofocus lenses for mFT, and my choice was between the Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 PRO or the Panasonic 7-14mm f/4.0. The Olympus offers an extra stop, better build quality, for not much more money.
While compact system cameras first appeared as portable options for photographers looking for decent image quality without the bulk and complexity of an SLR, recently they've moved more into the enthusiast and professional realm.
The Olympus M.Zuiko ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO ($1,299.99) is one of a pair of ultra-wide zooms available for the Micro Four Thirds camera system—the other being the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f/4.0 ASPH. ($899.99). The Olympus lens is more expensive, but captures twice the light at its widest aperture, and is sealed against dust and moisture. It's an excellent performer, especially when you consider its extremely wide field of view and zoom design, and earns Editors' Choice honors. DesignLike the other lenses in Olympus' top-end PRO series, the 7-14mm ($1,299.00 at Amazon) makes no compromises in build quality. It features a metal barrel and is sealed against dust and moisture, pairing well with a sealed body like the OM-D E-M1 ($999.00 at Amazon) . The lens measures 4.2 by 3.1 inches (HD) and weighs 1.2 pounds. That's a bit heavy for a Micro Four Thirds lens, but it balances fine on the E-M1, which has a deeper handgrip than many other mirrorless models. The bulbous front element ...
The Olympus M.Zuiko ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO is a top-performing ultra-wide zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras.
Sharp; Fixed f/2.8 apeture; Ultra-wide zoom design; Manual focus clutch; Weather sealed; Metal barrel
Some distortion at widest angle; Dim corners at f/2.8; Lacks native filter support; Heavy; Pricey
