While we found that this lens is a capable performer under the right circumstances, and we love its signature "snapshot" focus ring, there are simply better choices out there for Micro Four Thirds shooters-several of which are actually less expensive. We love the Olympus 25mm f/1.8, for instance.

Olympus 17mm f/1.8 M.Zuiko Digital
I decided to rewrite my review of this Olympus 17mm f/1.8 prime lens, because the optical quality of the first sample I had of this lens was really disappointing. Something was wrong with it. Luckily the sample I have now is much, much better. The build quality is great.
Pros:
- Build quality
- autofocus
- sharpness
- contrast
Cons:
- Slight corner softness at large apertures

[REVIEW-OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO 17MM F1.8 LENS]
This lens is the latest addition to the Olympus range of premium prime lenses for the micro four thirds system cameras. It can be used on either Olympus or Panasonic cameras. The new lens is not to be confused with an older 17mm f2.8 unit. The new optic is faster, sharper and has quicker auto-focus.

Olympus M.ZUIKO ED 17mm f/1.8 Lens Black - BRAND NEW review
As you can see above, there's no shortage of alternatives in this category - in the world of micro four-thirds, the manufacturers are all looking for that walk-around lens that the photographer will keep on their camera.

REVIEW: Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.8 Lens Review
This premium compact wide angle lens sports a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture and is compatible with all Micro Four Thirds cameras. The lens provides a field of view roughly equivalent to a 34mm lens used on a 35mm camera and costs around £440.

Olympus M.ZUIKO Digital 17mm f/1.8
The beautifully crafted, all-metal Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.8 is a strong performer in the optical department, offering very good sharpness wide open, and excellent performance when stopped down to f/2.8 or f/4.

Olympus 17mm f/1.8 M.Zuiko Digital review by ysoli
This lens is a real gem: - Lens construction is first class with it's full metal body. You have to see it in real to really appreciate it. - 34 mm FOV with f1.8 is the best all-around performer I can imagine for the micro 4/3.
Pros:
- Absolutely beautiful and sturdy construction
- 34mm FOV with f1.8
Cons:
- Lenshood not included and it's pricey

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.8 Lens Black - Brand New review
A lens that puts manual focusing a snap away
10 years ago
Not the sharpest lens in M.Zuiko Premium line, but definitely decent enough even wide open. Perfect everyday prime. It's no way cheap lens, but still cheaper than closest equivalents in other systems: Canon 35/2 IS, Nikon 35/1,8 FX, Fuji 23/1,4, Tamron 35/1,8, Sony 35/2,8,...
Pros:
- Very good build quality
- Very fast and silent AF
- Very good MF
- Size and weight perfectly fits on OM-D
- Full metal
Cons:
- No lenshood and no pouch in package

With the release of the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm f1.8 lens (34mm in 35mm equivalent), Olympus adds a bright, wide-angle, single-focal-length lens ideal for snapshot street shooting, landscape photography or capturing subjects in challenging low-light environments.
