Nikon Z9 initial review: We take a detailed look at Nikon's new pro mirrorless camera
Pros:
- 45.7MP Stacked CMOS sensor
- 30 fps JPEG shooting
- 20 fps Raw shooting (for over 1000 compressed Raws)
- 120 fps JPEG shooting at 11MP resolution
- 8K/30p capture and 4K-from-8K, with ProRes 422 HQ option
- 8K/60p, 12-bit 8K N-Raw and 4K ProRes RAW to be added with f/w
- Internal 10-bit N-Log and HLG capture
- 3.69M dot OLED EVF with reduced lag and greater brightness
- XM dot rear LCD with multi-directional tilt

Hands on: Nikon Z9 review
The Nikon Z9 sees Nikon's mirrorless cameras take an impressive jump forward to match flagship rivals from Canon and Sony. The Z9 feels like an indestructible DSLR, but inside are innovative features like advanced AF tracking, 20fps raw burst shooting, 8K video and an electronic-only shutter. We also like its new two-way tilting screen. It's a shame some video features won't be available until a firmware update in 2022 and we need to give the Z9 some real-world testing, but it has the potential to be a modern-day Nikon classic.

Nikon z9 Review: Nikon’s Most Innovative Camera Is Awesome
The Nikon z9 has been the Nikonian’s most anticipated camera. And it brings with it a lot of great reasons why it was worth the wait. For years, I’ve been critical of Nikon not taking steps towards innovating or doing something different. But with the Nikon z9, they’re addressing that issue.
Pros:
- High Speed sync works to 1/8000 and possibly beyond, The Nikon z9 genuinely feels like the first serious camera for a professional photographer along with the Canon EOS R3, Nikon’s absolute best autofocus, Once you get the hang of it and set everything up just the way you want, it’s an excellent...
Cons:
- The AF illuminator dramatically slows down the autofocus, I’ve surely seen better high ISO results, Exposure preview setting has been completely changed, Heavy, but that’s to be expected, Noise reduction is very strong, I wish all the buttons lit up and not just a few.

Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera with FTZ II Adapter Kit - Brand New review
It has all the typical shoot assists you would expect; focus peaking, zebras, even with tonal range, audio meters and a histogram. But that’s it, which is where it’s limited. But those are enough to get you by.
