Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G This medium telephoto lens from Nikon can be picked up for around £470 and sports a silent focusing motor and an internal focusing mechanism.
This new 85mm's optics are the best ever from Nikon, but the mechanics are the cheapest: it's the first 85mm Nikon lens ever made with a plastic focus ring or made in China.

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G This medium telephoto lens from Nikon can be picked up for around £470 and sports a silent focusing motor and an internal focusing mechanism. The older AF-D version is still widely available for around £305.
Excellent sharpness; Lightweight; Decent build quality; Internal focusing; Low CA and distortion
Falloff quite pronounced at wide apertures; Focusing speeds adequate; but not amazing; Lens specification
The Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G is an excellent lens that performs on a very high level in almost any regard. Sharpness is excellent in the image center straight from the largest aperture, the borders and corners deliver very good resolution wide open and excellent sharpness stopped down.
Optically, the AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G is excellent, which given its reasonable price tag is a very nice surprise. Sharpness is excellent in the centre from f2.8 to f/11, with f5.6-f/11 producing the sharpest results at the edges of the frame.
This is my favorite lens on the D800. (I've never tried the 85/1.4G, though) The handling, weight and "feel" to this combination simply makes shooting a pure pleasure, and it provides fantastic IQ! A great-value nobrainer. Love it!
Awesome lens for flattering portraits and great for landscapes too; Sharpness is excellent, clearly better than the old 1.8D-version in the open end; Pleasant bokeh, contrast and colours; Only 350g and a delight to handle
I'd liked it to have 9 blades of course; but 7 rounded is ok
