Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G

The Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G was announced August 2010. It's the longest of four prime lenses sporting an f1.4 focal ratio in Nikon's current range, with the 50mm, 35mm and 24mm completing the line-up.

Nikon 85mm f/1.4G AF-S Lens

While I hope to create a full Nikon 85mm f/1.4G AF-S Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information and...

If you ask yourself if you really need this lens... then you don't need it (maybe the D version instead).

Sharpness incredible stopped down and very good to great between f/1.4 and f/2.8

LoCA; would need a bit more sharpness in the center wide open; a bit plasticky feeling (but I can guarantee it won't give up as easily as genotypewriter thinks

Nikon 85mm f/1.4G AF-S Nikkor review by timtomgo

There is nothing bad to say about. If there is a weakness it could be its relative lack of sharpness at 1.4 in the center COMPARED to the sigma and the canon. This is mostly because of CA's, once removed in post processing you almost wouldn't see the difference honnestly.

contrasty; razor sharp; very fast AF considering the kind of lens

expensive; not 1.2 :p

In preparation for the 2010 Photokina in Cologne, Germany next month, Nikon is announcing three new lenses for their FX and DX-format DSLRs. All three are fairly large lenses that use 77mm filters, which is now standard for higher-end Nikon lenses.

The classic 85mm f/1.4 – a long-admired and respected lens in any mount, and especially renowned as the Nikon AF-D, introduced in 1995. As part of their recent push to update all their fast primes – and introduce a few new ones – Nikon's new 85mm f/1.4G AF-S with Nano Crystal Coating represents a...

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85MM F/1.4G Lens JAA338DA review

So this is a tough one. There is a lot to like in the new Nikon 85mm ƒ/1.4G. The addition of nano-crystal coating will help to contend with flare issues that were something of an issue with the previous 'D' version of the lens.
